Hi Ranger One. Have enjoyed many a post of yours while a lurker. True, an emp burst would take us back to horse and buggy days but wouldn’t affect the Northern Hemisphere other than some minute fallout. Good guess fwiw.

I guess it comes down to how advance is their Nuke and Missile tech.

Just b/c they have ‘failed’ a few times recently doesn’t necessarily mean anything. Could all be B.S. setting us up for a rope-a-dope.

General Kenobi is right on this point–the only loss would be the power grid and primarily on the west coast. The problem of course is that those people aren’t prepared to live without power. OLDSCHOOL mentioned on the weekend ZOOM that he read somewhere that most household only have 9 days of food. And without power there is no gas and thus no food, and no way to escape.

My idiot sister lives near Mission Viejo CA and I’ve tried to convince her to begin prepping if for no other reason than the potential of an earthquake but NO she won’t listen to me…she just blithely goes on as if there is no threat. Sometimes there is no helping people.

OH and I should mention to be fair—she thinks I’m one of those “paranoid” prepper-type kooks. Maybe but those skills served me well when the largest storm ever recorded hit Florida two weeks ago—I wasn’t such a kook then.

We know they are now armed with thermo-nuke weaponry. The Pukguksong2 is a SLBM imo, but of course I could be completely wrong. Their subs are diesel and easy to track and/or find. They’d have to get fairly close to launch it and I don’t see that happening unless it’s let to happen. All they would have to do is hit the West Coast. Flip of the coin I guess?

I heard that the reason why we haven’t leveled the North Koreans with air power is that there is a 14 min window of operation in which the North Korean artillery could rain down on Soul, 35 miles from the dmz and there would be massive loss of life.

Maybe they can neutralize that artillery. If they do I expect fireworks.

My friends in the military worry that the Third World War will begin in North Korea.

Yeah. As average Joe’s we really don’t know.
Unless some here are privy to info that isn’t public and if they are mums the word.

Even though they have had some failures they have had success.

Either it is a big nothing burger or we will get front row seats to watch the world burn with Carnage.

Indeed—yes they are diesel subs so the technology is WWI Era. But they DO have 70 of them, and six can sea launch an intermediate range missile, ie 500-1000 miles. So they could strike from international waters. Unfortunately we must also be cognizant that when Reagan was president we had a 600 ship navy, (He evidently has read Alfred Mahan’s 1890 essay The Influence of Sea Power Upon History: 1660–1783) and now we have little over 200 ships.

I know I know the naysayers will say “But our ships are EVER so technologically advanced”…yeah that is why one of the newest vessels had to be towed back into port. http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/13/us/navy-ship-milwaukee-breaks-down/index.html

Technology grants an edge but not a decisive edge. Recall that it was Germany that had the technological edge in world war 2, rockets, jets, ets. and they still went down.

Damn good points Puff. Seoul would be leveled in 30 minutes. The rub is the norks have all of those artillery batteries dug into the mountains and taking them out would be difficult unless we salvo’d tactical nukes along the DMZ.
The bigger rub is if they do that, ROK and US will likely do just that^. China will likely hold back unless we cross the DMZ, which we will, and yes, that is the start of WW3. The 2nd Korean War (or continuation of the 1st as the war is technically still ongoing) will be a nightmare. We won’t be lucky to even come close to an armistice when it happens the second time around.

I think it’d be fun to drop a nuclear depth charge down by one of those f~~~ing Nork subs. Be one of my STG brothers doing that.

All my life I've had doubts about who I am, where I belonged. Now I'm like the arrow that springs from the bow. No hesitation, no doubts. The path is clear. And what are you? Alive. Spot on Pete. IMO, the recent malfunctions on our naval vessels in that part of this World…well, I believe China hacked them. I truly do. Edited to add they are similar but not as reliable as Soviet/Russian Kilo class subs.

Grue, you’re the Man. I’d recommend a potato cellar/storm shelter/any kind of underground bunker with 6 months of food/water and somewhere to put the s~~~ and p~~~ 😛

I wonder how China would react to the US building and airbursting something equivalent to the Tsar Bomba on Pyongyang? No crossing the DMZ. Just a simple 50 megaton H-bomb unleashed on Pyongyang.

In the old days of the cold war the Russians were fond of saying they knew the USA wouldn’t sacrifice New York or Boston or D.C. for Berlin…

In the same vein, should we sacrifice Seoul for Otto Warmbier?

Seoul is the Nork’s real hostage. It and it’s metro area contains half of the RoK’s population. It’s the 16th largest metropolitan area in the world, ahead of London and New York.

Seoul is also 35 miles from the DMZ.

The US Eighth Army consists of one infantry division and supporting formations. It numbers about 20,000. The Seventh Airforce consists of about 8000 men. Marine Forces Republic of Korea can muster about 100. Everything else needs to be shipped or flown in.

When the balloon goes up, the Norks are going to paste Seoul with the largest concentration of artillery and rocket batteries in world history. They’re going to drop more than just pain old HE and WP too. There’s going to be lots of nasty chemical and biologics in the mix.

As that delightful fireworks display is taking place, the Norks are going to send entire armies straight at Seoul. The numbers are so overwhelming that the weapons the Norks will carrying doesn’t really matter. They could be armed with pointy sticks because 2nd ID will run out of ammunition long before the Norks run out of bodies.

The Norks won’t be trying to win the war. They’ll just be trying to kill as many people as possible before losing the war and Seoul is hanging like a big fat pinata in easy reach.

China and Russia haven’t been the ones holding back in all of this. South Korea, due to the threat to Seoul and the rest of the peninsular, is the one continually refusing to pressure the Norks.

So, I’ll ask again. Is Otto Warmbier worth Seoul?

Do not date. Do not impregnate. Do not co-habitate. Above all, do not marry. Reclaim and never again surrender your personal sovereignty.

What about all the aid South Korea provides to the Norks? Wasn’t that supposed to be a hedge against an attack on Seoul?

A few hundred tactical nukes used against any NK troops and their artillery positions… just saying… The real question is Otto Warmbier worth incincerating several thousand NK troops.

In the old days that country might find a naval squadron off their coast

Which could then launch a “Few” cruise missiles into the interior of said country. Training exercises, all in the name of training exercises the Admiral says.

China stated during the recent Guam threat that as long as N/K strikes first they will let it slide. However, they strongly stated we are NOT to cross the DMZ or they will enter the war. This info is a few weeks old and may have changed or be irrelevant now.
