That number is consistent with the percentage of NY cops that know they will not be able to survive going to prison.

They usually do not place their gun to their head until they get ‘one phone call’

The day I told my ex that I didn’t think I was going to stay in the marriage if she couldn’t/wouldn’t hold down a job, she threatened to make the phone call if I ever tried to leave. She made that threat right to my face, and was calm and very clear about it. Prior to that, there had been hints and indications about what I was dealing with, but that day she showed me who she was without even trying to hide it. She had a smirk when she made that threat.

I started planning my exit the same day. I knew at that point that she had never intended to work and help me with bills after we were married, and had only married me to retire early and get her bills paid. I knew that if I caved in to that threat and backed down, that life with her was going to get a LOT worse than just having to pay her bills.

The day it came time for me to leave, I had bullet proof witnesses, and established alibis for where I was after I was gone. Having under estimated my determination, and vastly overestimated her power, she was blind-sided.

When we got divorced shortly after, there were no kids to fight over, no enormous pile of assets for her to steal, and not enough time in the marriage for her to get spousal support. Cash cow had bolted from the building. She had no trouble at all finding a job when faced with the prospect of being homeless.

She never forgave me for escaping without having my life destroyed, and more than a decade later, she still leaves messages hoping for another shot. After the divorce, she gained weight, hit the wall and never could find anyone to marry who earned as much as me (and was always too proud to trade down).

She has had to work to pay her own bills every month since. And despite making good money, her undisciplined spending habits have left her with no retirement, no property, no savings, no assets.

Monday night is my usual night at this small lounge in a local steakhouse. The bartender is a really cool dude and we talk and joke all night. I always tip him well even though he says I shouldn’t. The waitresses are all young college girls and friendly. One in particular is really fun to talk to. She knows what it takes to get tips…….and free food from me. LOL They give you way too many fries there with your steak and I never eat them all anyway, so I share them with her. Girls and free food. Seems to be a big deal to them. However, she will reciprocate. I never share my steak with her, but she came in on her night off one time and ordered a steak and shared it with me.

Most of the customers are older people and very friendly. The only young people are the waitresses so it makes for a decent atmosphere. The food and drinks are expensive, but I only go one night a week and it’s a great hangout since the bartender and waitresses are so fun to talk to. One night I grabbed the remote and at the time they weren’t very busy, so me and one of the waitresses were watching a TV show together. I love a casual atmosphere like that.

The main point with all this is, none of it would be possible if I were still married. The fun and freedom could not be had when I was living with that old b!tch. I came home from that very steakhouse one night, trying to be nice, I had brought her over half of this huge fillet because she loves steak. Instead of simply thanking me and eating the steak, she immediately started bitching at me about something stupid, refusing the food. Fine, I ignored her stupidity and asked my son if he was hungry. He very much appreciated that nice big steak. He and I tried to enjoy the evening in spite of that miserable woman.

Now however, it’s much more enjoyable going out and having fun, knowing that I’ll go home alone and not have to put up with that schit. I can have a good time at the hangout and enjoy peace and quiet when I get home. I’ve always said this, kicking me out of the house was one of the best things my x ever did for me. Life is great.

Ironically (perhaps not), the best “relationships” I was in were the ones that were outright and unequivocally stated and understood (by BOTH her and I) that they were only for occasional sex and company.

Those gals are the best. They don’t expect anything from you but sex and other fun. Well, they do still try to get you to spend money on them if you’re dumb enough to do so, but I don’t mind buying them a beer or two and maybe some food. Good exchange for sex, I say. I still have one or two of those gals I hang around on occasion.

Even the ones I don’t get sex from are fun to hang around as long as you don’t get stupid and start to have feelings for them. That’s where all the problems begin, when you lose control of your emotions and think you can have a relationship with them that is anything beyond casual.

They’re just fun playthings, nothing more. Spend a minimal amount of time with them. Have some fun with no drama or emotional bullschit and go home alone.
