Now that’s it’s Easter, I get to thinking about what it’s really all about. We know historically that Easter is a Pagan celebration of a fertility goddess and that’s why we have it at the Spring Equinox and why it is still associated with eggs and rabbits and s~~~.

Does it not bother the Christians that their resurrection story just got tacked on to a Pagan holiday? Does it not make the Christian curious as to why that is?

I mean we are told by the historians that man has been worshiping various gods and that there were different beliefs for ten of thousands of years before Christianity was even a thing. We also know that some Christian bible stories (virgin birth, global flood, resurrection) are all just rehashed tales from several pre-existing gods and beliefs.

I seriously want to know how Christians can reconcile all this in their own minds. I mean I was raised a Christian and I doubted some of this stuff even as a little kid. After several years as an adult, I just couldn’t buy any of it anymore. It was all just too absurd and ridiculous for me to continue to continue to swallow.

How exactly do you believers do it???

(PS: Sorry for the typo in the title. I think maybe my keypad might be possessed or something)

Personally, Life was so much more complicated when I tried to reconcile it with Christianity. For me, religion is Restrictive, Controlling, and UNNATURAL. It fails to recognize that we are biological animals, and seeks to punish us for our NATURAL THOUGHTS and BEHAVIORS.

It has ONLY caused me more problems, frustration, and confusion in my life.

That being said, if it works for other people, and they don’t try to thrust it on me, then knock your socks off !!

I respect your comment. This has been going on for some time with Autolite posting meme’s of jesus child raping and other threads. I am not Christian and have no vested interest in defending it. I do however think this will become an issue if it continues on the both sides. I think KM will need mediate if it gets out of hand.

You’re just trolling the religious brothers.

I don’t blame you at all for thinking that but the question was serious. I really can’t figure it out.

As a guess I would have to say that true believers must think that the historians are just, for some reason, completely full of s~~~.

What really planted the Atheism seed for me was the Noah’s Ark story in Sunday school. I was a little kid in elementary school just learning about dinosaurs that existed millions of years ago. What they were telling us in school didn’t jive with what we are being told the bible says.

A few years after that, the church preacher said during a sermon that the Christmas story may not have happened on December 25th. It was a WTF moment for me. I thought why then do we celebrate Christmas at the time of year when it maybe really wasn’t!?!

Then when I learned about the Pagan celebration of the Winter Solstice, the wheels in my head really started spinning. Something was definitely not what it seemed…

Fair enough I appreciate your candid response. I’m just expressing my concern and hoping we can all meet a place of mutual respect.

Your concern is warranted because when religion starts getting discussed UN-needed s~~~ can hit the fan pretty quick and pretty hard,

For some reason, religion can be one of those topics that’s hard for people to Agree to Disagree on, an then just move on.

I’m just in spin mode today. I just helped my neighbour shovel out his driveway so that he can get to church tomorrow morning. We’re having a massive snow dump and the roads are treacherous and deadly and I tried to talk him into staying home. But he’s 84 years old but he’s adamant about going. He’s risking his safety and the safety of others for his piety and I just can’t wrap my head around this. To me, this is shear insanity!

Just before this, another neighbour and I had to tow another vehicle through the snow up the road just so the guy could to make it to the highway…

You’re a good man to help him. You will never understand, but you can accept, and that’s better than understanding in some cases.

So I helped him shovel out his driveway but he wouldn’t listen to me when I tried to talk him into staying home. So how am I suppose to feel if he gets in a wreck tomorrow partly because of me helping him???

Well I didn’t see that post I don’t belive in deliberately baiting but I do think religion should be open to challenge and criticism and debate, that’s all my point is.

So then we can all agree that I’m an asshole. Nothing new here. Maybe now you might want to address some of the questions in the OP???

Probably, but right before Easter? That is just trolling.

I won’t be commemorating Easter either, but I don’t feel the need to p~~~ in people corn flakes for no reason. Guys like Greg H, frostbite and RPbible are some of the most solid guys on here, and would give you the shirt off their backs. Nothing wrong with giving them Easter and showing some respect.

That is all for me, anyone wants to attack me, that is fine. I am ok with what I said.

Yeah I saw the Jesus child rape post too FrostByte.

    Glad I missed that one.

Used to be a guy in our town. Local Hard nut, gang member etc. Almost knocked me out once. Would mock and hassle any Christians. 666 n’ all that.

Anyway. He disapeared from the scene. Later found out he had a revelation. Full on 180 degree turn around. Would preach to any who listened. Freaked a lot of people out. They thought He’d lost his mind. When asked about it he said he’d never been happier.

Can happen to anyone. If it hits you, your life changes. You look back at your old life and tend to view yourself as an arrogant ignorant child rather than the sophisticated worldly wise person you thought you were.

You realise that when you thought you knew it all. You actuallly knew nothing.
