What you do not understand is that gun control is popular here, most people approve of it.
It doesn’t even stop citizens from having guns: Czech Republic have gun control laws that are much stricter than USA, but they have more concealed weapons per capita than USA.
Furthermore: immigrants smuggling weapons aren’t going to smuggle guns, they’re going to smug Pakistani-made copies of AK-74s. Having a gun is useless against such things.
Rather than having a random population buying useless guns at will, it would be more effective a gun control law that allow all cops, ex cops, all soldiers, and all veterans, to privately own every kind of weapon (excluding rocket launchers and missile launchers), including assault rifles, while still limiting common citizens.
