I’ve lost power, but not firing generator due to looters. The rain is tailing off now. It’s going to be an all nighter. I can’t wait to inspect roof. Wood is old pine with high fat content water logged and very heavy. I may need a tree company if it’s too high for me to safely cut.

A woman would be helpless in this situation.

I’ve got a hurricane oil lamp and just pumped in coffee. I can’t go to sleep until rain quits. I did move all tech equipment to guest room.

I’ve done 30 ten gallon pots out the door so far. Imagine that spread on wood floors for 2 days. At least my bailing gets applied to my deductible. Hoping I can cut limb and lower it. There is a higher Hurricane deductible. 25 years and zero claims.

I’ve got natural gas piped in so range and hot water are a done deal.

I don’t discriminate when it comes to killing looters. Nothing like listening to it rain in your house.

Georgia is Castle Doctrine. The legal leeway for eliminating threats in your home is much more lenient no threat of civil action either. I can shoot to kill especially in my home. Looting in a State like Georgia is stupid. I think it’s way different in Massachusetts. I’d go to jail.

Hope all is well on your end. I was super busy during my rotations and had no chance to write. You have crossed my mind multiple times and I said a quick prayer for your safety and that of your family.

Positions reversed I would have done the same re staying to protect my property. My belief is needless evacuation orders are designed for those who have zero resourcefulness and expect others to “save” them from any degree of inconvenience. Herd the sheepeople all in one place.

Not only did you seize the opportunity to save your place from massive water damage, you negotiated a deal with an insurance company during a crisis. Don’t forget about over time charges. Let me explain this again to you why tossing off rounds like is an idiotic idea.

First, C-Pig has mentioned at least twice now that LEA has “ShotSpotter” deployed. It’s a system of acoustic sensors tied to a computer. It uses sounds to pinpoint where a gun was fired and it works. We had it in Iraq and the ‘Stan. I used it’s data myself to track down shooters.

Tossing off “rounds in the dark” is only going to increase the chances that ShotSpotter picks up C-Pig and the LEA comes calling.

Second, because the hurricane weakened and stayed off shore, more people are moving around. Yes, some of those people are looters. Most will be LEA. There will also be government employees, utility workers, FEMA, and the like out assessing the damage. There will even people just out sightseeing. All those people are going to report shots to LEA. Even looters who’ve stashed their swag are going to report shots to LEA.

Tossing off “rounds in the dark” is only going to increase the chances that someone hears the shot, reports it, and the LEA comes ’round to investigate.

In C-Pig’s situation, indiscriminate fire is idiocy. This isn’t Guadacanal and you’re not interdicting the sandbar across the mouth of Alligator Creek with random weapons fire to keep the Japs from crossing. This isn’t Aachen and you’re not sending .50 caliber down a side street to keep the Germans trapped in a house while waiting for your tanks to shell it.

C-Pig is essentially hiding out in occupied territory. Until the evac order is lifted Sunday, he isn’t supposed to be there and LEA can roust him for no cause. C-Pig needs to maintain a low profile. No one should even suspect he’s still at home. He should do nothing to draw attention to his home lest LEA show up to “evacuate” him.

If there where actually looters suroundg you in the dark and you dont wnat to shoot any one, or would consider being charhed for murder to be the wores of the two sconarios, the single shot would hold them at bay. They are not armed robbers. The are b and e guys thant want any easy day. If there are not any looters, we do this instead.

You haven’t been talking about firing warning rounds at identified targets, brother. From the first you’ve been suggesting “… the occasional single round in the dark.”

There’s a huge difference between warning shots fired over the heads of encroaching looters and firing randomly into the dark in the hopes the noise will scare off people who might be out there.
