No argument here. I think we have to preserve a certain level of dignity and respect for one another. Sometimes s~~~ happens and we say things harshly, etc. But as you said, the repeated and intentional nature of his insults. And overall sense like he is p~~~ing all over everything and everyone. Without any consequence for such behavior. F~~~ that. You did the right thing to call him out. I did it in a thread. We reached an understanding, so he was more or less reasonable with me. But I saw how he spoke to others. And on that basis, everything that took place seems perfectly legit.

Agree that he hung himself with his own rope. It is his own conduct that resulted in this. Not some lack of coping skills on the part of those being insulted.

This is a rare place, and we should treat it and the people here with the respect it rightfully deserves. Those who are slanted, and aiming to defile or debase. They can find an environment that is more suited to their level of maturity and disposition. No shortage of forums to troll on. If you want to be here, just make sure you come correct. Not asking for anything more than that.

Ok – so turtles aren’t everyone’s favourite and agree we did derail ElCPs thread a little. But he kept it on track and ny time we talked about turtles most of what needed to be said was said.

X11 was backtracking a bit. The message was loud and clear that he was crossing the line.

Threads get derailed. We know that.
If a threads content is important then start another on the subject with a request that if people want to go off topic f~~~ off to the thread they already derailed.

Just some thoughts.

Agreed. Life is too short to take s~~~ so serious. By the time the turtles hit the scene, the thread had done it’s job and it had turned into bickering and the same s~~~ being said many times over. Sometimes threads need a little derailing to lighten things up a bit. In the end, in spite of the turtles, the thread served its intended purpose.

Exactly. It’s been said so many times…..if you don’t like what you’re reading, stop reading it. Don’t keep bitching about how hot the fire is if you refuse to pull your hand out of it. There are plenty of posts I ignore just because of who posted them. There may be many who ignore my posts. Who cares? Free speech is not license or cover to cause intentional deliberate problems, to devolve a thread off-topic into personal attacks on people.

We have free speech but we have laws against libel and slander and falsely crying fire in a crowded public place.

No one stops the asshole saying it, but they have to live with the consequences of abusing free speech.

It is about accountability. We are asking to hold people accountable for their speech. You want to say whatever and s~~~ all over this place and some people here you don’t like? Be man enough to face some negative consequences for your actions. You would in the real world. Talk to your mangina boss the way you post to others here and see if there are no negative consequences.

What i have seen at other sites that seems to give people a chance, is a lengthening posting suspensions policy.

1st time may be short. 2nd time longer. 3rd time longer. 4th time banned/indefinite. By that time you see its a pattern of behavior that the person hasnt changed and wil not change.

The Golden Rule works for most people and most people are not affected by this kind of thing. Its when a person has a view that is totally okay with creating disruption and chaos and enjoys doing it to others when they will not give others the considerations they want to do whatever they want unscathed by negative consequences, is why this stuff even has to be discussed and implemented.
