Christians that disassociate the horror story of the OT because hippy Jesus are a special kind of stupid.

How many examples would you like me to post here about Jesus being a violent, hateful, murdering c~~~?

@onetruemisfit, @cu, @any christian who thinks the NT does not promote violence and chaos.

    Christianity is a death cult.

This I agree with, but I disagree that it’s because of anything in scripture. It’s the churches that make their parishioners sing, “We all can’t wait to get to heaven…” blah blah… each week.

The bible is constantly warning people about the priests and pharmacies. It’s one of the major recurring themes throughout both testaments. That’s why churches never preach about those passages, and each church has a library with hundreds of book on bible interpretation, but not one church will ever encourage a single parishioner to actually read the bible.

Your bonehead analysis would conclude I am a christian.

Are you aware every single post of yours contains an insult to someone? I’d hate to have grown up in your home as a child. For the record, we’re not your parents.

Its dumb c~~~s like chu, surf, ontrue etc that are the problem.

Sounds like this isn’t the site for you then, because these intelligent gentleman are certainly welcome here, and their thoughtful discourse is much appreciated by all, as opposed to your one liner insulting posts to everybody, and you’d clearly be happier somewhere else.

One of my rules in life is I don’t go where I am not wanted, and that’s a good rule in general that you should follow. So take care, then. We’ll definitely miss you.

Honestly wasn’t trying to be a dick saying Christianity is a death cult. From it’s start and finish it is a linear process seeking death for fulfillment.

I could be wrong but that’s my interpretation.

As for reading the bible many atheists went through an agonising deconversion over many years and they studied the Bible’s every word in great depth and detail trying desperately to hold their faith in tact.

It is no surprise that many atheists know more about scripture than the average christian who knows nothing more than the select passages the nice pastor tells them.

Pastor training in a lot of colleges is not a scholarly study of scripture, its about how to preach.

When the whole of your teachings involve the book of revelation, and you preach to your followers “gloom and doom” where they need to look forward to the end times so they can be one with God because this world is so terrible; what else would you call it? It’s designed to make people depressed. And yet there ARE religious people out there who CLAIM atheists have nothing to live for because they don’t have God in their lives. They can’t see the irony.

How many times have we heard the news about some religious cult leader poisoning, or convincing his followers to drink poison? How many religious leaders rallied their followers around s~~~ like Y2K like it was the end times? Hell, how many televangelists have been arrested for fraud, money laundering, tax evasion, etc etc etc over the years, alone?

As for reading the bible many atheists went through an agonising deconversion over many years and they studied the Bible’s every word in great depth and detail trying desperately to hold their faith in tact.

Not me. I spent my entire life trying to GET AWAY from the church. From the time I was 5 I was already questioning religion because even at that age, the story of Adam and Eve made no sense in the realm of logic and reason. Do you know what happens to children born of inbreeding? All kinds of birth defects. And this is 2017. Not 4000BC.

My favorite fairytale is the one about Jonah who gets basically eaten alive by a whale and lives to tell the tale without any harm to his body. When the reality is, the vast majority of whale species could never physically ingest a human. Because their bodies are designed to ingest water, and small food like fish, shrimp, or crab, and for other species – plankton.

So the only possible species that could have swallowed Jonah was an orca. Which are known for aggressively hunting seal and other mammals. A species of whale that would have realistically torn him to pieces. Or maybe a sperm whale. The amount of water a whale ingests when it opens its mouth would have drowned Jonah.

BINGO! These guys have degrees in psychology for a reason. So they can understand the human mind and how best to manipulate it.

In your case there’s no effort needed at all. Honestly.

From it’s start and finish it is a linear process seeking death for fulfillment.

We are all going to die, fulfilling the linear process nature gave us. You should worry about your own mortality and stop obsessing over other people.

    I could be wrong

Weasel words, you communicate here solely by appealing to authority, your own LOL.

As for reading the bible many atheists went through an agonising deconversion over many years and they studied the Bible’s every word in great depth and detail trying desperately to hold their faith in tact.

You don’t speak for atheists, I’m sure the more intelligent ones here are embarrassed by your foul mouthed ranting too.

As for atheists being bible experts, every atheist I know hasn’t a clue what’s in the bible, or has forgotten most of it. That’s probably because its meaningless to them. You’re just fantasising here, how do you know what “many atheists” do? You said earlier they weren’t even a demographic, now you’re their spokesman? LOL. Here’s one you dodged, the nearest thing atheists have to a spokesman is Richard Dawkins, he calls himself a “secular christian”. Explain that to me?

You say you don’t know his work, not surprising as there’s no intellectual background to your bulls~~~. I’ve read Dawkins ‘The God Delusion’, and ‘The Selfish Gene’. So I know more about the central philosophical arguments of atheism than you.

It is no surprise that many atheists know more about scripture than the average christian

Hahahaha. Did you set tests to discover this startling fact? You THINK in your jaundiced brain this is true, therefore it must be true. Why? Because you hate Christians and it FEELS good to prop up your prejudices without reasoning and pondering if any of this manure could be, you know, not completely true. Hamster wheel, tuna thought processing.

who knows nothing more than the select passages the nice pastor tells them.

I read the bible daily, I can quote from it, and think about it quite a lot. The liturgy of the Catholic Church follows a three year cycle, and breaks the year up into ordinary time, advent etc. Each mass has three readings – one OT, one NT and one Gospel passage. It doesn’t avoid the difficult passages. Last Sunday was the 31st Sunday in ordinary time, the Gospel was Matthew 23: 8-12. The passage most used to knock the Catholic Church for calling priests ‘father’.

“As for you, do not be called ‘Rabbi.’ You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers. Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven. Do not be called ‘Master’; you have but one master, the Christ. The greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted”

There’s no hiding or solely using flowery passages. The priest will talk about the Gospel passage, you chew on the Word, then go about your business. I read these passages frequently before each mass so I can better understand the message during mass.

I also read the Bible in two other ways – straight through, one OT book then one NT book, and back again. Or, I think of something, or something happens in my daily life and I search the Book to find a suitable passage. I know my bible, I think a lot of Christians do, but unlike you I don’t think I speak for huge swathes of the population.

Are you an authority on pastor training? Maybe you trained to be one? If not then you’re just stacking words from your ass to your mouth, like you always do.

From a popular pastor training course.

Which one? Which denomination? Whose authority? Source or gtfo. Why is it ‘popular’? By what means? Worldwide? North America? Or your local church in Bumf~~~ USA?

    Nothing about critical thinking

Hahahahaha. Well you’d know about critical thinking ok.

or textual analysis, history, comparative religion…..basically nothing to make a pastor an expert on religion or the bible.

How do we know? You’ve copy pasted a table of contents of some course you say is ‘popular’ among ??? Christians. Show me the whole course and let me make my own mind up.

I’m not going to take your word for it sugart~~~.

The ad hominems aren’t finding their mark they way they used to girl, are they?

Again: are you going to link us to the source of your popular course or are you going to keep referencing your sexual proclivities?

And: why does leading atheistic thinker Richard Dawkins refer to himself as a “secular Christian”?

    Enquiring minds want to know.

This is grotesque. Men don’t say this to one another. It’s like scratching someone’s car with your key – a man just doesn’t do it.
