I think it is because as men (unlike women) we understand accountability and responsibility. In order to be accountable/responsible we as men must by definition have integrity, honesty and honor. Women have absolutely no idea; no conception at all. Their morality is very simple: Does an action enrich me? Increase my status/money/power? If yes its moral to women, if no then its not.

They can’t think beyond their own short term interests.

I would agree with that, except that making prostitution legal can harm other people. At least in the US, people consider the government, essentially society as a whole, to be responsible for there mistakes. So if prostitution results in unwanted pregnancy and disease, do you think’s going to pay for it?

Even then I think people have somewhat of a right to resist change that effects the society they live in. Making prostitution legal could have a drastic impact on your neighborhood. Although a person may not want to be involved in prostitution, it will be suddenly thrust in their face as something they must accept or risk shame. The same thing happened with homosexuality. I’m sure Colorado is looking like a different place to live post legal marijuana.

We don’t live in a vacuum. These sort of things do effect us whether we want them to or not. And quite often, the people who claim “it doesn’t effect you, why do you car?” are wanting the change because they know it will change societies opinion about them.

And then there is the slippery slope. If prostitution becomes legal, what’s the next ‘immoral’ thing people start clamoring for? Notice how once homosexual marriage got legal, we started hearing about how transgender people are treated so poorly. If society starts accepting transgender as normal, what’s next? Pedophilia? Maybe it’s better to keep prostitution illegal so that we don’t move on to something else a little more out of the norm.

I still don’t know what I think though. I guess I’m just going through those mental arguments out loud.

It’s exactly this dichotomy that made (and still makes) me use prostitutes. Normal women want to ban prostitution just because they would lose control on the sex supply, not out of a moral evaluation.

My only moral qualm I have with prostitution is the sex trafficking of minors. This is completely egregious, and needs to be ended with swift retribution. Just destroys life.
