I once had a friend who thought that talking to the dead was for real. I explained to her what Cold Reading was and how it worked. I showed her clips of John Edward doing his act and explained how he did it.

Consider also that what we see on television are only the ‘hits’. The countless misses are edited out for the television viewers. This helps to reinforce the illusion or the ‘trick’.

After a lengthy explanations and a long discussion, my friend finally relented and admitted that what John Edward does was only a trick, just an act. However, she said that; “All the others were for real“! FFS!!!

I was the last guy he spoke to.

Years later it is me that tells his former Step Son, a stranger ,of his passing.

God or no god, it was a kindness from your heart how you handled that.

Your story reminded me of something, off topic, and I hope you don’t mind if I tell it. I will keep it brief, even though if I filled it out with ore details it would probably convey more of the power in it.

I had been around conservative people my entire life. My family very religious and staunch republicans, private Christian school, the military, my career I worked with almost all Right wing conservatives. I of course was very conservative myself in many ways, but had become disillusioned with some of the hateful rhetoric I was hearing etc. I longed to be around more liberal people, imagining them based on their words, to be kinder people. Well I got the chance and soon realized they were all talk in that regard and were even worse than the worst snake at church.
Coffee shop hippies who talked a mean game about kindness etc. and did nothing but judge and hurt other people.
I was even dating one, and one day she told me a small story. Now her mother was a nurse in WW2 and met a dashing young British RAF pilot and the married. After the war they moved to New Mexico, and started a large family. They were very conservative and Catholic, the kind libtards now try to pain ad hateful bigots etc… now I knew all of this, just filling it in for you… My gf worked in a doctors office and she was telling me to this day older Mexicans would come in with their grandkids and recognize her name, and would gush about her mother. 40 years later these people would remember how their mother helped teach them, their children or parents how to speak English. She volunteered and did this to help these people have a better life. She didn’t just sit in a coffee shop or post blogs virtue signaling. It had nothing to do with her politics on immigration, or her candidate or party. It wasn’t about trying to virtue signal. These people needed to learn to speak English so she just showed kindness and rolled up her sleeves and did what she could. It probably seemed like a small thing, but 40 years later she is still loved and remembered.

Anyway, that and your act are the real kindness in this world. imo Worth more than any church sermon or blog post on huffpo.

There are people who do this as a con and they are very good at it. I don’t certainly, but I have heard a little about how they do it, and just shared a little… I don’t really care.

That’s pretty much how Cold Reading works in a nut-shell. There’s nothing at all ‘magical’ about it. The people who are good at it are the one’s who are the least obvious about it.

That’s why the ‘professionals’ use legal disclaimers that it’s “for entertainment purposes only”. They don’t want any legal liabilities should someone act on what they are being told.

There are tons of books on this and similar stuff. You really don’t have to look very far to figure out how it’s actually done and what’s really going on…
