Put that s~~~ into a trust or an IRA account, and don’t touch it. Don’t even tell her about it.

If he’s not getting married, I would tell him to live off of 3,000, and invest 7,000 in stocks, bonds, IRA’s and look into franchising a few businesses. He does that, he’ll be bringing home more than 10,000/month, with dividends and business profits.

Irrevocable Trusts can’t be f~~~ed with brother. Do it years in advance and all she can do is look at the assets, but she definitely cannot touch them.

Sure, they’re even more likely to change mind and to divorce due frivolous reasons. But they’re dumber when there’s to get the stuff.
Furthermore making bracelets is done at home, and it’s much less likely to be abandoned even due pregnancy and a baby.
A white collar abandoning her job after signing the marriage contract would be MUCH MORE likely to be destructive: she is an office drone, she is much more likely to abandon her job after a childbirth, she have no dignity and she isn’t ashamed to be a parasite. Less likely to be so someone who have her business and actually create things.

I would have said talk to a family lawyer first about the risks he would be getting himself into.

As an accountant, maybe he will understand the situation.

Why is he doing it? Suggest he list some goals or something for why get married. Perhaps a long-term, multi-year girlfriend would be a better solution.

It’s been a while since I played with trusts, but I thought that an irrevocable trust meant that the assets can’t come back to you. If you do a grantor trust, which is revocable, meaning you can get the assets back. So, for example, if put money into an irrevocable trust for my daughters, and they get the money when I die, but I can’t ever get those assets back. The reason I would do that is so that the gift can grow without counting against my estate tax. But if I give them a grantor trust, I really have given them nothing because I can change my mind anytime up until death.

Am I missing something? It’s been a few years.

Before I got married, I had a high monthly income. Nevertheless my little boat anchor could still spend far more than I could earn. I started working 60 hours/week and it still wasn’t enough.
