Hey fellas. I’ve posted about my recent job loss at a different section, but this would be a more appropriate place to ask a question relating to this.

In particular I was wondering, what should I put on a resume since there wasn’t much time spend on this new job hence no reference obtained. There will be about 2.5 months gap if I don’t put this new place on it. Previously I worked as a machine operator, but even there the supervisor is pretty much an asshole. I asked the boss to give me a reference, she replied she would but never e mailed her contact info.

So my question is, what the heck should I put on this resume thing? I can e mail it if needed. Appreciate any advice!

Well, I’m refering to this 2.5 month gap in work. I can’t put my recent job as they fired me after 2.5 months, or can/should I?

Resumes are the biggest pack of lies ever written. Just make your job before that one 2.5 months longer to cover the gap. Or say you were unemployed or on holidays or caring for a sick older relative for that time. Lots of different bulls~~~ you can put down. Nobody checks if its true anyway.

I wouldn’t use a company that fired you, what if they call for a reference? I would keep the focus on the can do and make the report card second priority, boring to read, and leave the blanks in your employment history and make no excuses for them unless interviewed and actually questioned. Control the narrative!

helpful tip for emailed resumes. at the bottom of your resume. write in as many key words in your industry as possible. reduce the font size as small as possible. color those words white.

this is invisible to human eyes, but the words are in the document. the scanning software the HR c~~~s use will pick up on these words and flag your resume as a good resume. HR c~~~ wont know or care why yours is good, computer said you were good.

emphasize experience, certificates, team player, reliable, competency.

That application is genius! I used to do that on ebay and my website to generate more traffic! I never thought about using on corporate slugs!

A 2.5 month employment gap can be explained as: took off some time to help a family member with _________, or sick parent, or had an opportunity to visit/ travel to see a long lost relative, or whatever else that happens in life.

In my opinion, It’s better/ easier to throw one of the above in then to try and explain why/how you left, and that ypu don’t want them to contact that employer. To Many red Flags.

    1. A 3 month employment gap is normal.

    2. Always, every single time. Reason for leaving is always department cutbacks. Always.

Don’t put the references on the resume…put your skills, desires, and history, but simply add a last, standalone line “references upon request.”

You aren’t applying to a federal government (GS, WG) job, are you?
If so, you MUST pepper the “key words” throughout (for the computer screener and later human reader)…and oh, you must claim some type of disability.

My resume is full of lies.

The hiring managers don’t give a s~~~ about you as a person, but what can you do, to benefit their company.

Starting your own business is way better than working under a CEO who makes more money in a day, than you in three years.

So do you put those keywords on a second page, which will be invisible or just make a 1 page resume?

Keep your resume short brother, you can have 20 years of experience, but keep it short, one page at max.
Recruiters wont spend more than 30 seconds looking at your resume, I’ve seen guys working in IT with a 3 pages resume and only 5 years of experience, they are basically asking for a c~~~ just to skip their resume, no matter how much energy and talent they have, a c~~~ will “ignore” them because she is too “busy” to read more than 1 page.

C~~~s do the hiring, and that why HR is so f~~~ed up. Good candidates get rejected for a very insignificant reason, because we all know c~~~s that dumped a guy because she didn’t like his haircut, the same happens when those c~~~s are choosing someone to hire, they will drop male candidates for the most insignificant s~~~ that you can imagine.

If you worked in several different fields, write in a summary or something, that you can learn fast and you have the flexibility to take several different responsibilities/activities at work. Don’t let those c~~~s make you look bad by saying “looks like you don’t have a focus on your career, you picked up several different jobs”, just say something to make you look like you can handle a lot of different stuff, because we all know, men can learn fast as hell, and when we change jobs, is just a matter of time until we became good at something, c~~~s are the ones spending their whole life doing only one thing, and they still doing that one thing wrong !

Good luck brother ! Hope you find a job soon !

For the USAJOBS applications to be successful:
First, you must get past the computer. If you cured cancer, developed unlimited free energy, and ended all crime, you will not get an interview if you don’t get past the computer. To do that:

You must “Firewall” all answers to the questions [that is, put the max/far right answer that says you are the best person that ever lived with regard to that skill].

You must read the Position Description [PD] (aka “the ad”) and include all of the key words from it clearly in your resume. The resume for USAJOBS is not like any other “normal” resume. You basically rewrite their PD with a couple of your own words in it.

You have to have additional “points.” These may be from previous federal work, military experience, or disability.

Without all three of the above, you will not get past the computer. THEN a human (not at the job, but next to the computer in St Louis) will look over your resume. THEN that human will forward some number (like 10) resumes to the actual hiring person who needs the job filled. THEN you might get an interview.

Much of this depends on the level of the job, and of course, the number of applicants.

If you are applying for an entry position, GS7 job or lower, etc. it may not matter so much. If you are applying for a GS11/12/13 etc., you need ALL THE POINTS.

If you are the only aircraft machinist who applies for an aircraft machinist job, it might be different.

Also note the “active” time of the ad. If it is for just a few days, they likely already know who is going into the job, and they are simply “going through the motions” because the rules say they have to advertise the position.

Some may disagree with me on this and I have mixed feelings on it but consider putting your picture on the resume. My best friend suggested it to another fella and he got the job probably for other reasons but the fella felt like it helped. Just a thought.
