That’s not what happened.
Sorry about that, OldBill. Admittedly, I was actually trying to find more links to said information on shower tape and found that information. I guess it wasn’t accurate.
Whoa, Varun, please don’t misunderstand me, okay? I’m wasn’t bitching at you or showing you disrepect or anything like that.
You and I are in nearly complete agreement on this topic and I was trying to explain about the tiny bit where we sort of differ.
No I understand completely. It was my bad that I got caught up in the moment. You are absolutely right. Justice should not be biased towards gender.
I said this because I want to acknowledge the fact I got carried away by my emotions and over-looked your ethical statements. For that, I’m sorry.
Its not bad to express yoursef and lighten up, but at the same time we should also learn to direct our focus away from what’s ‘unnecessary’ to what’s important.
This is something that I wanted to tell myself, not you. I am sorry if I have offended you in any way. Your insights are highly valuable to me and all the other members here. Please do not take offense and be relieved that I do not either.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Moth and Varun – No problems here, brothers! I think we’ve been posting pass each other.
See you ’round the forums.

I do think a crime was committed, but I think two factors should be considered.
– Although she surely had some emotional suffering, I have no doubt she financially gained from this, and I don’t mean the payout from the trial. That doesn’t mean she shouldn’t receive some compensation, but in comparison to other crimes where loss of income occurs, the payout should be lower. And that is not legal, that just seems like common sense.
– I am not in agreement that the hotel is 50% liable for this. There shouldn’t be an expectation that the hotel room be damage proof. They should be responsible for repairing damage, but negligence in that regard would not have contributed to the crime committed against Andrews, it would effect future hotel customers. So to me, the only argument would be that the hotel should have been keeping records of hotel damage and who possibly could have caused the damage, identified the individual and either reported him to police (without evidence), put him on a blacklist, or figured out his target and blocked him from taking the room next to Andrews. That seems like a lot to expect from a hotel to me, and I’d be surprised if something like that was something the hotel agreed to do for ESPN and it’s employees, or what the law says a hotel must provide.
IMO, it seems to me that we are going too far in blaming guns, people, and organizations for not preventing someone else from committing a crime. It’s so common now that it seems society will focus more on anyone or thing to blame except who actually committed the crime…or, in many cases, the person who never applied any common sense in protecting themselves (not this particular case).
Ok. Then do it.
Yawn!
I agree an injustice was done to her and compensation is due but the amount ordered is way way over the top.
Typical of gynocentric human nature.
Protect dem wimmins no matter wat da cost!!!
frankly my dear i don't give a damn

She got a series of TV commercials, moved to another network with a salary bump, and is active on the dinner lecture circuit. None of those things would have happened if the stalker’s actions hadn’t pulled her out of ESPN’s interchangeable pack of sideline “reporters”. That being said, I have no problem with anyone – woman or not – successfully playing the hand dealt them by fate.
That doesn’t mean she shouldn’t receive some compensation, but in comparison to other crimes where loss of income occurs, the payout should be lower.
As I explained earlier, she won’t be getting anything near the $55 million awarded her.
They should be responsible for repairing damage, but negligence in that regard would not have contributed to the crime committed against Andrews…
Actually, their negligence did contribute and that’s because…
So to me, the only argument would be that the hotel should have been keeping records of hotel damage and who possibly could have caused the damage, identified the individual and either reported him to police (without evidence), put him on a blacklist, or figured out his target and blocked him from taking the room next to Andrews.
… that’s precisely what hotels already do. Believe me, they were using “big data” back when the data was stored on 3×5 cards.
They knew the damage occurred because they repaired it. They knew who caused the damaged because they inspect rooms before and after use. They even knew there was a pattern because they had to repair the same damage again after the same guest stayed in the rooms.
That seems like a lot to expect from a hotel to me…
It seems like a lot to you because you’ve never traveled for a living or lived in hotels. It’s a fascinating business and you as a guest only see a fraction of the real hotel. There’s an entire world on the other side of the “Employees Only” doors with staircases, elevators, kitchens, dorms, laundries, offices, and security suites. The last is especially important, as you’ll see.
… I’d be surprised if something like that was something the hotel agreed to do for ESPN and it’s employees…
Prepare to be surprised. The chain in question would have an agreement in place with ESPN – like any other large corporate customer and especially like any large media customer – which would address security issues. Among other things, the hotel would not confirm the presence of an ESPN employees, give out their room numbers, and provide “soft” security in the hotel’s hallways, bars, and restaurants.
… what the law says a hotel must provide.
Not a law, more like good customer service for good corporate customers.
IMO, it seems to me that we are going too far in blaming guns, people, and organizations for not preventing someone else from committing a crime.
That’s an opinion I happen to share. I also don’t think it applies in this case.
The chain in question had plenty of clues as to what was going on and, while we don’t know the details of whatever contract the chain had with ESPN, we can say the chain failed to live up to the contract.

Anonymous24If the same joke was made at Hillary’s expense, like “You seen how big her x is? That must mean her privates are like a 4 car garage!” Or whatever the equal of making fun of a woman’s genital size would be equated to the media would have BLOWN IT’S COLLECTIVE S~~~!
You betcha, already happened here in Aus, “the obsession with the size of her behind – after becoming Australia’s first female Prime Minister, Julia Gillard” was you guessed it Misogyny, NOT THE FACT THAT SHE HAS A HUGE ASS.
This guy in this story was sentenced to 2½ years in prison. I’m not condoning his actions, but TWO and A HALF F~~~EN YEARS???
Holy crap man, that is disturbing. Yet another example of how women demand special treatment, and get it. What a f~~~ing joke. Can we lock Rubio up for 2.5 years as well? lol Not gonna happen.
You were right, Old Bill!
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Is she one of those female news castors that is allowed into men’s locker rooms and when the naked men complained years ago they were taken to court to allow women access to some of the most private times like when a guy is naked. Just because your team mates can see doesn’t mean some strange chick can peep.
Ah the irony.
