The funny part is the female tears of course it does not seem logical to men women use it as a cash grab. That’s not what happened.
The wacko stalked her for over a year. She was working for ESPN at the time. He got her schedule, figured out what hotel chain ESPN had it’s corporate account with, and traveled to the city in question when he could. Once he got to the hotel and checked in, he’d identify which room she was in and then try to change rooms to one adjacent to her. When he was able to get a room adjacent to her, he’d open the “linked door” on his side, drill out the peep hole in the “linked door” on her side, replace it with a fish-eye lens, and then try to capture pics and video.
IIRC, he got lucky twice after more than a year of attempts. He also wasn’t stalking her across the US. His attempts were in a cities in a few states and always at the same hotels.
So, we have guy who always shows up when Andrews is in town, always asks for rooms adjacent to her’s, stayed in his room at odd hours, never wanted the room cleaned, and always left damage to the adjoining doors in some manner. Yet no one noticed.
The continued physical damage to the doors is especially damning. When you check out, they do more than change the sheets, vacuum, and drop off towels. The housekeeping supervisors inspect the rooms for physical damage too. They would have noticed the peep holes being tampered with and the hotels even repaired previously damaged peep holes that the wacko had to drill out again.
All the clues were there. The hotels aren’t run by cops but there’s some things you shouldn’t ignore.
I used to travel for a living and you’d be amazed at the information hotel chains collect on you. I’d be checking into a hotel I’d never been at before but, because it was part of a chain, they already “knew” me and my needs.

We never would have heard of it if she was just some nobody but, nobody or not, it shouldn’t have happened.
It’s a dirty little secret about hotels and motels, but they’re wired a lot more than you think. And not always “officially” wired either. The chains PR flacks and lawyers work hard to keep the stories quiet but there’s not a week that goes by that someone finds out they’ve been secretly taped at some hotel and motel.
For example, I was in Cedar Rapids in the mid-90s when a huge scandal was winding down involving a high-end chain hotel downtown. It seems the staff had been taping whatever went on in the hotel’s “honeymoon suite” for years and this when video cameras were the size of briefcases not buttons. People went to jail for that one and the chain paid lots of damages. Of course, those damages came with a gag clause.
Please understand, I’m defending the right to privacy here and not cheer leading for Erin Andrews. It doesn’t matter that she’s a low grade celebrity or a woman, she shouldn’t have been filmed without her consent.

This woman just got filmed naked. It was wrong. The criminal got convicted and jailed. The court compensated by paying 55 Milion dollars. All good.
But what about the thousands of men who get cheated out of their money, equally emotional torture for man as it is for someone like Andrews, but they don’t get compensated jack squat? You don’t see them in the news; they cry too, in the same agony as this woman did. Do people listen then? No. He’s just told to man up and ‘leave it and forget that it ever happened’. Crimes against women are given so much f~~~ing attention….what am I to make of it? Only this: “Women are more important than men!” Where’s the equality in this?
I will only acknowledge that this incident is wrong, but my acknowledgement will not turn into support because, well, life is unfair. Until it is fair, deal with it.
If there did come an inevitable time, I’ll support ‘justice towards women’ only as much as the justice system will support me if something of the same magnitude happened to me.

Varun, I happen to agree with nearly everything you wrote. The justice system, just like the society of which it is a part, is undeniably prejudiced against men. However, I’m not going to deny one person justice merely because justice is applied unevenly.

That is true. I don’t want to go that way. I don’t want “If everyone can’t have one, no one can have one”. What I want is “If one can have one, everyone shoud have one”.
I do agree I get very upset sometimes; but like everyone else here, I’m here to learn. Its not bad to express yoursef and lighten up, but at the same time we should also learn to direct our focus away from what’s ‘unnecessary’ to what’s important.
