I don’t think the people whose heads he put on spikes were from nations that were major trade partners. Putting heads on spikes really undermines potential for trade. The presumption is that Mexico is a major trade partner with the United States, and the desire is to have that. Issue is whether or not the U.S is on the wrong end of trade, and what can be done to fix it.

One thing that happened with NAFTA is America tax subsidized corn, and other agriculture went into Mexico and displaced workers there, so they wend up coming back to America, looking for work. This isn’t the only ones, but is part of it.

Anything a government does, in sufficient significance, is going to have consequences that are unintended.

By the way, rather than a wall, maybe build a moat with spikes at the bottom.

What then will happen, is that the individuals coming over the border, will end up coming over with guns that Americans sold the cartels there. Fast and Furious happened, and got Americans killed, as part of an operation to trace guns leaving the United States.
