The scorched earth plan in case of the divorce going disastrously awry

I posted this elsewhere, but I thought I’d make it a separate topic. The divorce/separation was mediated and mutually agreed upon, but before we went the mediation route, I had formed a fallback plan in the case of everything going to hell. (She moved out of state and in with Chad #4)

My fallback plan (Which I called “Plan Psi” – after the second to the last letter in the Greek alphabet) were I to be totally f~~~ed in my divorce was to have containers of gasoline in an isolated room in my house’s basement interior and have the power turned off by the utility and then rig electric cords to ignite the gasoline when I schedule the utility to turn the electric back on.

The rest of the plan was to purchase gold rounds, probably from Monarch Precious Metals (with about $95,000 in available credit) and a one-way plane ticket out of the country to a certain nice, tropical South American country. Once in that country, I’d live off of the gold & currency & never pay back the credit cards, and the power would turn back on the day I’m out of the country and ignite the gasoline and burn the house down. I would have already quit my job and gotten my severance pay.

I’d never set foot in the US again and p~~~ off on the credit card debt from buying gold, and p~~~ off on the student loans.

Scorched earth. 1/2 of 0 = $0

In the unlikely event Plan Psi failed, Plan Omega was simply consuming some of the water hemlock (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cicuta) that abundantly grows on my property.

No utility employees would have been harmed in that plan. It being my own house, with no one in the house, when it goes up. Sitting on 2 acres, not near other houses, so no collateral damage to other houses.

The equity being so low that the insurance payout would be lucky to cover the remaining mortgage (due to me refinancing to lower the monthly payment to something I could afford post-divorce)

Empty bank accounts, credit cards maxed out, all personal property destroyed.

I had planed to max out credit cards (get them, never had one).

Buy gold and send it to the caribean and desapear in the mountain in land buyed in one of my cousins name.

Great application of risk management procedures! A critical part of all planning, I really do admire this plan, well thought out, a clear end state and ensuring damage to the enemy’s fiscal resources. Choice.

Absolutely something to be considered in the planning process. The risk reduction process mitigated this in this case.

No assets left behind. Zero bank accounts, no paychecks due, no support payments.

If she wanted what was left, she could take on $100,000 credit card debt used for gold and the plane ticket, and $25,000 in student loans. LOLs.

Hopefully Plan Chi (mediated divorce settlement) will all be finished in a few weeks, and I can permanently mothball Plan Psi and Plan Omega. (Plan Phi was before Plan Chi and that was rejected by the ex: marriage counseling — she wanted her Chad c~~~ and that was all there was to it)

And note, my original Plan Psi did not involve buying gold with credit cards… it was a planned 3-year process to get Paraguayan citizenship (probably the most practical and easy for Americans) but I realized the time table was not soon enough.

I might start pursuing that again even when the divorce is final, as a fallback contingency for something unforeseen going wrong in the future. It can’t hurt to have passports from TWO countries, especially since a US passport could be confiscated by court order.

Burning the house down is a crime, Arson, not a good thing. Too much could go wrong.

I would rent a backhoe, tear down all of the house but one wall for your complete remodel. You planned to remodel before the divorce, right? With a good operator it should take you about 4 hours at about $70 an hour. You could use a sledgehammer, it would release a lot of frustration. You left one wall up so that you would not have to pay for permits/fees for a new house, it ‘s just a remodel. Who can say that was not your plan? Leave the scrap in a big pile int the front yard. Buy a roll of orange caution tape, you want everyone to be safe. Wrap the house and the scrap pile with the tape.

The rest of your plan sounds excellent. Ship the gold, it will be confiscated at the airport, you think the metal detectors are for your safety?. I don’t know why more men don’t leave the country and start over.

Burning the house down isn’t even the critical part of the plan. I did come up with minor variants on that plan. For example, continuing to work and stockpile cash while not paying the mortgage until foreclosure procedures were initiated and selling all personal effects on Ebay, then inflicting enough damage to the house before leaving to ensure there is no net worth net of the mortgage.

If you are going to bail the country, stop paying on the house. Live there and work as long as you can. It sometimes takes banks years to foreclose. Depending on where you are, they don’t want the house back.

Be flexible, but you don’t have to play nice. You don’t want to get put in jail for contempt of court or any other reason. No money in banks, it all went to your drinking problem caused by the divorce.

The state want’s you to support your ex, so they don’t have to.

Old Rottweiler’s plan is far better. Scrap the house manually as though you’re doing a remodel, including digging up whatever of the plumbing and foundation yuo’re able. Do this with full permits and licensed whatever to keep it legal… then simply leave it.

And absolutely do not attempt to carry more than $10,000 worth of cash or precious metal through a commercial airport. Have the funds delivered to your destination some other way or charter a flight so that there is no TSA to check your bags.

I’d avoid shipping too as that would leave a paper trail. You want to maintain the illusion that you are not fleeing the country and then do it suddenly and with the involvement of as few officials and observers as possible.
