I’m not from the south, but I know exactly what you mean. I have lived there. They have all kinds of sayings that “on its face” seem to be complimentary but are really just condescending as f~~~. They say southern hospitality and all that but really they just have a different way of being c~~~s – a more passive aggressive type than in the North.
