What is an important aspect of questions like if the earth is flat or moon landings were fake etc…:

    1. It is good to question things. Even if those are considered “well known facts”. Once many of us were thinking it as a fact, that we will marry the love of our life and be total happy for a life. Because this was put into out mind as a fact. Also, that you have to pray and somehow problems will be solved. and so on, santa claus, xmas, tooth fairy, easter bunny, … …

    2. Really, think again, how do we know about things? We can only experience a small part of the world personally. All other stuff is TOLD to us by OTHER people. It is just blah-blah, not your own experience. It is just an announcement. And many announcements can fit together as some logial theory, but if no way to check if it is true, then how we know it? Media is NOT one of our senses, like our eyes and ears. It can provide us with bulls~~~ information.

I am a scientist, and for sure I see some physics in practice. many parts of the theories about round Earth and moon landings and other stuff seem to fit together to something logical. but anyway, if I did no fly ever high enough to see the curvature of Earth, then whether it is round or flat really just depends on, if those who saw it in real, tell the truth or not…

And so on, it is time to question many other aspects of life. It is good to make questions.

This whole thread reminds me of many SciFy books I have been reading since young.

Especially one dystopian book call “Tik Tok”, by John Sladek. The pertinent quote, in a part of the book where the robot wants to have legal recognition, goes like this:

The next break came from statute law, namely from the Equal Science Act. This says that ‘no scientific theory, hypothesis, principle, law, definition, program, procedure or statement may be taught in any California school while in conflict with any other theory etc arising from any religious teaching, unless both theories etc are given equal emphasis as equally valid.’
The idea was to give Genesis equal time with evolution as a creation theory, but it soon got out of hand, with Ptolemaic Anabaptists insisting on equal time with the Copernican theory, and finally with the Christian Flat Earth Assembly (Swiss Synod), whose representatives brought a suit against a California teacher for mentioning satellites. There are no satellites orbiting a flat earth, they pointed out, and so anyone mentioning satellites should also express doubt about their existence. A group of astronomers filed a countersuit, claiming that if satellites were unreal, their livelihood was in jeopardy. Moreover, satellite communications could not work and could not therefore be licensed by the government.
The state legislature had to meet quickly and draft an amendment to the California Comsat Act of 1998. In effect, the amendment hedged on the question of the reality of satellites by considering them as ‘sentient devices’. Thus if satellites believed in their own existence, they had a right to be real. Of course this opened up the whole question of freedom of religious belief for robots…

I used to laugh at the kind of society described in this book.

    Not anymore, it is here…

Don’t tell me the Earf is round. The Earf is triangle dude.

You are starting to transition from mildly ammusing to somewhat of an irritating fly buzzing around.

How do I know that? Because I have eyes that work. That’s like asking how you know a lamp is on. Even though you have refused, or are unable to intelligently answer my question even after I’ve asked it twice, I will answer yours.

I know that light did not exist before the construction of the International Space Station, because I was born in 1967 long before and I have been studying the night sky ever since I was a young child watching orbiting satellites move across the night sky and viewing constellations and meteor showers and other planets and that light was not there. Once they started launching components and putting them together in orbit, that light appeared. You can see it for yourself, for all the good it will do. I can post a link to one of the ISS observation sites, but I see no reason with the way you’ve treated this discussion.

    To the OP.

Sure, there are also many “conspiracy theories” that are really true. And many “conspiracy theories” are plain nuts.

It is important to think for yourself. But one has to be armed with basic knowledge to understand things. You have thousand of years of science to learn from. See it with an inquisitive and a skeptic mind.

THEN you will be able to speak with property.

Isaac Newton said in 1675: “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants.”

But even before, in the so called “Dark Ages”, we can read: “Bernard of Chartres used to compare us to dwarfs perched on the shoulders of giants. He pointed out that we see more and farther than our predecessors, not because we have keener vision or greater height, but because we are lifted up and borne aloft on their gigantic stature.

In modern language we would say: you do not need to rediscover the wheel to have a car. But it does you no favor to use a car and claim wheels do not exist.

Moon Landing is what I’m quite frankly a skeptic toward. I explain why. The first “space” rocket launch had been conducted in the middle of the 20’th century. Some sources claim those were Germans in 1944, but commonly accepted those were Americans in 1946. Since that time Humanity makes a dozen of launches every year. Evolved from V-2 to Falcon 9.
The USA sent 6 manned missions to the Moon. NASA owned the most powerful SHLLV ever invented. And after all of that NASA stuck at ISS?

Yes it’s almost like NASA is going in reverse. Shouldn’t the ISS come before the moon?

Also i remember when i was a young kid they were saying we will be on mars by 2000. Then when 2000 came around they were saying we’d be to mars by 2010. Now they are saying ny 2030. They keep delaying it cause it ain’t happening

Dark City is one of my 10 favorite movies of all time; I just don’t re-watch it that much since the ex left, since my ex has an uncanny resemblance to Jennifer Connelly.

The pre Galilao beleif was, that if you sailed a ship to the edge, you would fall off.

This is bulls~~~ Old Sage that your school taught you.

The fact is that the Greeks already calculated scientifically that the world was not a sphere and was almost accurate on the size of the earth through their tests. If anyone thought that the earth was flat it was the early Christians who rejected Greek science as being Pagan.

Shouldn’t the ISS come before the moon?

They interviewed to NASA astronauts on the ISS talking about how one day they would be able to break out of low earth orbit and travel through the Van Allanr belt.

Din’t they do that in the 1960s when they went to the moon?

Here is an experience people can do with their own hands.
    Buy:
    – A weather balloon;
    – Some helium;
    – A FPV camera with a good range and a really good antenna.

    Then replicate this scientific experiment:

    Enjoy…

That’s a s~~~ty camera, or at least a s~~~ty lens to tell the shape of the Earth. At some points the Earth looks horseshoe shaped. This video gives the flat earthers just what they want to try to prove their argument.

    It is a fisheye lens.

    Fisheye

It is used when you want a large field of view. I am not claiming to prove or disprove the “shape of the earth”.

The simple fact that we are talking about this is a sure sign that no proof is going to work.

What I am saying – challenging – is for people to get THEIR OWN PROOF, with THEIR OWN HANDS.

Then show us the images of the flat earth, or the gigantic turtle, or whatever you might find out out there.
