Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

Not a religious man beyond “the laws of nature” ( so that happens to be my “god” )…. but sometimes the biblical stuff is fascinating to say the least.

If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.

Hey Keymaster, I think the laws of nature were written by god! Ya can’t bend them, distort them, delude them, evade them, fight them, and worst of all IGNORE THEM or just simply don’t do what women do….

It’s interesting, but it should be noted, many regard the prophesies to be ‘vaticinium ex eventu’, a prediction after the outcome. The topic of WHEN the Book of Daniel was written, is debated. The more widely accepted scholarly position, is 2nd century BC composition, not 6th century BC.

Having come from a family that is “apocalypse oriented” I am weary of these prophecy regardless of them being true or false. I think it would be more productive if these “apocalyptic” groups tried practicing virtue and self discipline as a means to peace rather than beat people down with fear.

Don’t get me wrong though, fear has its place, but one cannot solely run on fear as it does not give the required strength nor prudence to live a fully virtuous life. Fear is for children, and only works for those who are childish (spiritually speaking). And I don’t say this as something pulled out of my ass, as I have been down this road before.

Because of the nature of most prophecies appear through the use of metaphors, they can be easily tripped up in hindsight (as frankone suggested above).

However, because of the complexity of the reality through which we live, true prophecy (I believe) has to be metaphorical in nature because metaphors in themselves are like packaged equations. But because of that a prophecy meant for one group cannot be applied except to that group.

With all that being said, we live in confusing times full of fear and a lot of these “Christians” (loosely put) take advantage of the ignorance of others.

I think prophecy has its place, but it cannot be put on a pedestal. But this is all my opinion.

You see that is my point, focus on prophecy more than self discipline/virtue and your mind turns to mush and the only thing you can say is “Blablalba”. +1 for proving my point.

This is not a religion vs atheism topic so just get out if you only want to say that christians are stupid believers, living in fear. GO AWAY!

The flying spaghetti monster is the one true god, the rest of this stuff is nonsense. Pastafarian for life!

This is just as valid and verifiable as any other religion.

You are entitled to your opinion, but in reality I really didn’t have to because as I said in the beginning I was exposed to a lot of these things, and have read much of the book of Daniel myself. A lot of the stuff is the same eggs re-scrambled.

The accuracy of prophecy (whether it is true or false) is largely irrelevant because it does not add or take away from ones calling to virtue. And that calling, manifested through self discipline, should be of a higher priority.

Assuming the “prophecy” this man speaks of is true, I still do not think it matters because one can get hit by a car the next day.

Is this stuff interesting? Yes. But I think too many believers and churches put it on a pedestal when in reality nothing can be done about it.

Listen, accuse me of whatever you want, but if you have an accusation you should at least have a reason why.

To make myself clearer. I never said anything good or bad about the book of Daniel. I hear “its the end of the world” all the time from these random people interpreting scripture their own way. Rarely do I see them do anything of value except scare people into buying survival gear or having a cult following. Even if they are right, I really don’t care because I could be killed and judged tomorrow. Unless these modern “prophets” help bring about virtuous/Godly aspects of people, I generally value them in a neutral regard. And that is all I am saying.

OK! then say what the dream was!

You do understand that asking someone online to quote a story for proof of intellectual prowess when the internet is directly in front of a person, does not constitute proof right?

Conan: What gods do you pray to?
Subotai: I pray to the four winds… and you?
Conan: To Crom… but I seldom pray to him, he doesn’t listen.
Subotai: [chuckles] What good is he then? Ah, it’s just as I’ve always said.
Conan: He is strong! If I die, I have to go before him, and he will ask me, “What is the riddle of steel?” If I don’t know it, he will cast me out of Valhalla and laugh at me. That’s Crom, strong on his mountain!
Subotai: Ah, my god is greater.
Conan: [chuckles] Crom laughs at your four winds. He laughs from his mountain.
Subotai: My god is stronger. He is the everlasting sky! Your god lives underneath him.
[Conan shoots Subotai a skeptical look. Subotai laughs]

Listen kid, the fact that what I just said just flew entirely over your head makes me look like a real dick for being in this conversation all together. People like you are the reason I take a neutral position with modern self appointed prophets of scripture.

If you want to win this conversation its all yours….I’ll even +1 you over it so you can fall asleep tonight with a warm sense of self satisfaction because I currently cannot email a warm glass of milk and a smiley face cookie with the s~~~ty laptop I have. Don’t by PCs from Walmart….you will regret it.
