If any of you airplane nuts have a little extra cash, Canada has a Sabre Jet for sale. IIRC, the fuselage was from a North American F86 and the wings are from a Canadiar CL-13 Sabre.

The jet was built to commemorate the RCAF “Golden Hawks” aerobatic team for the 2009 airshow season which was the 100th anniversary of powered flight in Canada.

It’s too bad that the plane will likely leave the country. Sabre jets where actually built under license in Canada by Canadair but we’re not suppose to pay attention to stuff like that or have any pride in our history and culture and s~~~ anymore… πŸ™

    Hey Autolite,

It’s poetic that the F-86 is shown twice above as it was the first US airframe to use the Springfield Armory M39 cannon, which was a ripped off copy of the Luftwaffe MG213.

Yep, played way too many strategic board games as a kid with the big brother and friends. Luftwaffe is still a killer game if you can find someone to play against.

Well the F86 Sabre’s design was heavily influence by German technology. North American incorporated the ‘swept wing’ design for the F86 once they realized that the Germans had figured out it’s advantages with the Messerschmidt 262. The original idea was for a straight wing design.

Some models of the Sabre Jet also incorporated an automatic leading edge flap (know as the ‘soft wing’) for improved low speed handling and stability which IIRC was also a German innovation…

It really sucks to be on the wrong side. πŸ˜€

Why I don’t hear an Alahuakbar?
