    Warthog

I always thought this plane was a fantastic addition to the arsenal. In recent years it was slated for the boneyard, but MAGA happened.

This is a “killer” plane in all sense of the word.

This depends entirely on what end of the barrel you are. 😉

Chances are with the a-10 you would die before you heard it.

If I don’t know I’m dying what the hell do I care

From what I have read about the Warthog airplane.

The Warthog is an Army plane. The Warthog is slow, thorough in its destruction, and tough.

The infantry love the warthog because a expert warthog team can be very precise in its targeting. The warthog has a very tight turning radius.

The Air Force hates the Warthog because the warthog is not fast, sleek, destroys the area and moves on.

It was originally designed to be the deterrent for the Russian tanks that would move across Europe in the event of invasion.

It was built to be a close air support mechanism, so low and slow was the way to go. The pilot sits in a titanium tub for protection, and the plane is made to take massive damage and keep flying.

Actually, the cannon came first and the plane was built around it, from what I understand.

It’s at close support aircraft with triple redundancy and a multiple use platform they were considering it at one time to carry nuclear missiles. Sometimes the things that are older and slower work better.

There is no actual military vehicle that can take the place of this marvelous design of an air machine. In a prior Life Time I was an airframe PowerPlant mechanic(1980-82). There’s no reason to be a dick to the world but if the world was going to be a dick let them get their asses kicked and thoroughly.

Sure there are those persons out there who would argue for the F-22 or even f 35. They can build at least 15 a Tens for the price of one F-22 Raptor better yet they can just maintain what they have.

A lot of you young man don’t understand what a strong military means because through the years we have all been brainwashed we don’t need new military systems we need a new attitude in the world. Until people can get their f~~~in s~~~ together, will use Force

The reason is the kickbacks for new weapon projects. While the A-10 Warthog is a decades old design, the design is so effective it is banned from being sold to third parties.

So those that get kickbacks see no money in A-10 Warthog. They do not care if A-10 Warthog is effective and decreases U.S. causalities on the battlefield.

A-10 is my favorite jet in the flight simulator! Next to that if not tie is the F-86 Saber Jet!

And the F-4 Phantom, I can’t leave that one out!

    The A10 is a masterpiece.

It has double triple redundancy on everything important.

The pilot sit in a titanium bathtub so he can take hits and survive.

That is he can make that gun run and know he has a good chance of comming home.

Is it needed against isis, no. Against Russia, yes.

n a prior Life Time I was an airframe PowerPlant mechanic(1980-82).

Ex-rigger/fitter here also. As I understand it the Thunderbolt II became redundant. Multi-role is the wave of the future but what do I know? I still can’t believe they got rid of the F86.

Without Googling it, what was the name of the 30mm rotary cannon in the Warthog??? 😀

The Warthog had the “30mm GAU 8 Avenger”. The 20mm in other aircraft was the “GAU 4 Vulcan”. Both guns were once General Dynamics pieces of kit but IIRC they’ve since changed ownership. (Original design by General Electric.)

You can double-check that with a Google search ’cause that was just only from memory.

(GAU = Gun, Aircraft Utility) Pronounced “Gow” like ‘cow’ but with a “G”

Bonus points for: Who made the 20mm revolver cannon in the Northrup F5 ‘Freedom Fighter’???

I have many fond memories of looking out of car windows while Dad was stationed in Ft Huachuca as A-10’s ran mock attack runs along I-10 and State 90. Little Bugs in the distance quickly became wickedly cool beasts as they flew past.

Awesome that they are still kicking ass after 40 years of flying. The modern version of the P-47 that is very worthy of the Tbolt name.

I once had one buzz me, then execute an Immelmann, and acquire me on the business end of that 30mm again in no time flat. I waved at him as he flew over. I was glad he was on my side.

While the A-10 is indeed a tank buster by design, the terrain in Afghanistan makes this airframe the perfect platform for accurate air to ground support.

Pretty much the same range and ammo specs as the AH-64, but doubles the speed and hard point munitions. Both are awesome in the close air support role and no other fixed wing has it’s capabilities.

Watching F-18s fire the 20mm Vulcan on the range, you first saw the bullets chew up the sand, then you heard the rounds whizz by and then you heard the gun growl (in that order)… 😀

Nothing like the bore end of a mini gun to bring a smile on ones face, unless you’re on the other side of course!

You fantastic bastards. This is cool s~~~, and ya’ll like it too.

Speaking of the 64, I wanted to join the Army to go special forces, drive tanks, or fly helicopters.

Met the first she devil the second day of college. Got married, kid, the whole nine yards (for those who know where the meaning came from). Tried again, and wound up here.

I have astigmatism in left eye, so it probably would not have worked out due to the helmet optics, but what the Hell, I’m here with you guys.

Guys, I dreamed of letting loose in that plane from a very young age.
