I don’t think it’s ruined the world per se. There is a lot of good produced from technology; Sustainable energy, prosthetics, travel, contact & communication to name a few.

It’s more how we’ve chosen to interact with it and the obsessive behaviors that come with certain outlets.

Asking rhetorical questions is annoying. You are looking for a specific response while talking in generalities. Radio, TV, Movies, Music… none of it was created for entertainment. The guy creating it saw a way to broadcast, and news was immediately used as propaganda. Clearly technology could have been used for good, but that was never why it was created. Without a boat, we couldn’t go tear places apart for personal gain. Without guns and bombs, we couldn’t destroy everyone in the spur of the moment. The technology to farm has made it so we could bore more people than the earth can possibly sustain. Even if you point to medicine/alchemy saving lives, is that actually a good thing? I saw the other day a Lego car being controlled by the brain of worm that had been removed. Also saw that Google’s AI created its own baby AI. If humans can create AI far more intelligent than anyone on the planet, what will these new AI created by more intelligent AI do?

I’m not even looking to the future, I’m talking about right now. And I will talk more to you in the Socialism thread(which I agree socialism is trash), but consumerism isn’t any better at the end of the day. The reason I say that is because all of our food comes in packaging. People work as slaves to update their stupid phones, tv, computer etc. year after year, creating more garbage. Nobody seems to carry that China sucks despite becoming the #1 power, the goal is to keep up. Keep up with pollution and living in giant shoe box cities? Land is going to be a thing of the past, homeless people aren’t even allowed to fish technically. The system has been created so we have to take part in the system, and we compete to create technology, that will do us nothing in the end. We all die, life is temporary, and our bloodlines really don’t matter. Our kids are offspring is going to grow up a bunch of pansies who don’t even know what gender they are. I assume they get that from TV shows like Parks and Recreation, where April dates a bi sexual and a homo at the same time.

Power always corrupts, even when you give it to nerds with no real power at schools like Stanford. I strayed away from bringing up God and being wary of Satan’s devices because to some people it’s irrelevant, as they don’t believe. They believe space created itself so we could let the good times roll, and that’s fine, but it makes me wonder why they care at all. If I believed there was nothing after we died, I would off myself tomorrow because who cares. No one ever said I was wire correctly 🙂

By the way, I wasn’t looking for a specific response. I generally wanted someone to point out how technology is good. Like at all… if we’re going to blame the people for misusing it, then we should blame people for existing at all.

Fire? Stone tools? thin sticks for fishing for termites? Knapped flint arrowheads? Opposable thumbs? Language? Transmission of culture? using bones and hides for shelter and clothing? Art? Ritual burial?

All of this is very primitive technology. Is this the technology that has ruined the world? With out these very basic examples of technology, we would not be homo sapiens, but rather just another hominid.

ok how about digging ore, refining metal, heating it and casting it into shapes, ax, bowl, sword, door knob, nails, coins, how about limestone quarries and baking mud bricks? Heating sand and other materials to make glass. Cut down trees, use some rocks, and imagination and you have Notre Dame Cathedral.

OK still too primitive. Dynamite, gunpowder, rifles barrels, cannon, versus long bow, balista and stone walls.

This is difficult to nail down, the type of technology you want to discuss. I can keep going and look like a moron flailing about until I happen upon the answer you want.

I’ll move the technology along a bit, telescope, microscope, surgical tools, innoculations, sewage treatment plants, canned food, refrigeration, pneumatic tires, horse shoes, iron frame construction, curtain windows, I beams, lightning rods, canvas awnings, concrete forms, rayon carpeting, spray paint.

I think these are all good things.

Right now, technology is helping me make sure that my son has recieved the money I sent him this morning.
That is a good thing.

Human Resources.
This is what technology is being used for now, on a global scale.

Before we go any further… I supported Trump, but believe all politicians are controlled, including him. I also believe in God, namely living the way of Jesus. I also believe we’ve never been on the moon or put a rover on mars, and that aliens don’t exist.

There is good and bad within any technology. Cool Whip is awesome technology. Non dairy whipped cream? Sweet! A big spoonful on apple pie is pretty good, having 6 tons of cool whip fall on you from a couple hundred feet up is bad, very bad.

I’ll just cut your rant down to show you what I mean… you think gutters are good? Well, you apparently think we should have to pay for land, buy houses and use gutters… everything has been created to partake in a system, a system you never agreed to. Can I go live in the woods and build a cabin? With the way Alaskans are forced off land, I doubt it. Without a registration and license, I can’t even fish legally to survive. But gutters are a great invention? Building trash all over the world to take up space, impressive. Those rain gutters just make it easier to build s~~~-hole apartments. Is that good? I think it would be better if they crumbled to the ground.

I’ll say this, banking technology is saving my ass, making me money and paying down my debts. I like that technology
I liked the technology that went into making my car and the roads safer, and I need the technology that made my glasses.

I guess I don’t see any downside to technology except toxic waste, obsolescence and disposal of all old tech into landfills, the ocean floor, and earth orbit.

I sort of agree, but it is an indirect way.

Talking about computers, rather than technology in general:

I’ve been thinking, as a computer enthusiast from the early 80’s, things have changed so much since then.
They were a lot harder to use, remembering obscure commands that you had to type in.
It only appealed to a very small, select audience, who were (mostly) on the same wavelength.

Now that anyone can use and has access to a computer, *everyone* is using them.
Including bullies, show offs, con people, womanisers, sluts and various other scum.
In particular, social media has developed into a tool mainly used for bullying and vanity.
It is very frustrating to see my hobby degenerate into this…
