I think it goes beyond reproductive power. There is something about “dressing up” in costume that makes women feel like they’ve earned the status of whatever that costume entails. Women absolutely love Halloween, dressing up sexy even though they are not. They love dressing up in vegas as if they are a lady with class, even though nothing could be farther from the truth. Here in Texas, women love dressing up for the rodeo, even though they know noting about country life. It’s as if they actually they believe looking the part is the same as being the part.
Men grow out of this at a rather young age. You may see men dress for Halloween, but they won’t dress as a barbarian unless they have a barbarian’s body. It’s usually self depreciating humor or something. Men don’t enjoy getting into a tux…it’s not who they are. Men don’t put on a cowboy hat and call themselves a cowboy. I personally refuse to wear one, as I’ve never worked a day at a farm, and pretending I have is insulting to farmers/cowboys.
Women don’t seem to get that. You can be whoever you want to be just because you want it, not because you earned it.
Ok. Then do it.
