Anonymous1But what had impressed me in Detroit is a freshly painted fire hydrant amongst all that desolation. The city keeps living after all the happened! I can’t imagine the same in Russia, no matter how I’ll try because I know the reality too much well.
USA has a very different attitude than most anywhere in the world. We have very short memories here. Almost like an amnesia and hope springs eternal. Detroit is a ruined city, but its surprising how optimistic some of the people still are. They call it “The Comeback City” now. Although when I lived there I was burglarized almost every week and I had to push broom the used heroin needles off my front doorstep. Half my neighborhood was abandoned buildings and houses.

Acres of desolation, thousands of empty houses, the complete collapse of industry. That is the brutal truth, not a fire hydrant. The city is dead.
Needless to say about the unbelievable level of corruption as well as about communal services are tied with criminals.
You still believe in the fairy tale West. It is no different here – they just have more polish, that’s all.
… then, of course, feel free to call Russians or Chinese.
Much of the rest of the world is doing just that.
Acres of desolation, thousands of empty houses, the complete collapse of industry.
Yes-yes, I know. It’s unnecessary to describe my country.
There is an expression, “The devil is in the details”. Details are everything. And the fire hydrant is one of them.
Could you tell me which video is taken in one of the richest cities of the country, and which one is taken in a dead s~~~hole?
Bonus. Listen to the sound. Watch they shaking. Most of our streetcars produced 35-40+ years ago and won’t be replaced until are fell apart. If you call maintaining and developing the infrastructure by the verb “to polish”, let so be it.Happiness for all and let no one be forgotten ("Roadside picnic", Arkady and Boris Strugatsky)
