You will find that things that disconnect us from our external and internal world is what prevents us from being our true selfs…

That is so true. Things that ‘separate us from our true selves’ can also spill over into the world of possessions. We are constantly bombarded from dawn ’till dusk with the script that in order to be whole or outwardly successful ‘we need more’. Advertisers spend billions with one goal in mind, trying to make us feel inadequate without acquiring. If a person wants or needs an item, sure, buy it .. enjoy it. But, and this is the biggy .. don’t let them for one minute try and make you feel that you are incomplete without the latest possessions. I pass by storage unit complexes as I drive and see literally hundreds of locked garage style doors where people are paying good money each and every month to house their priceless junk. Personally, I would argue that they would be happier .. and a little bit richer .. if they got rid of all that stuff and tried to buy less. Internally, I believe a person is happier in many different ways by owning less .. more and more people are discovering this secret; thus the spreading popularity of the minimalist phenomenon.

I would say the most important word in “self worth” is self. People get much more caught up in the word worth. What am I worth? Well, that’s what you bargain with someone else. What am I worth to a woman? Money, companionship, money, and emotional tampon, money, sperm, money, you get the point.

But what are you worth to yourself? That’s a much deeper question. And probably the one that makes you end up on this website. In some way, I guess we are all here discovering our self worth. Realizing that we have value to ourselves first and others second. And as men we are programmed to worry about our worth to others first and ourselves second. That may be the biggest distinguisher of blue vs. red pill.

    Nice post, great topic!
