The problem with growing opium v pomegranate is the former gives you far more income per acre.

Opium has been cultivated for centuries over there, it wasn’t illegal until the 20th century. Afghan farmers are illiterate and subsistence level. You stop the crop growing overnight and they starve. Pomegranate makes them poorer. Its a f~~~ed up problem. Also Kabul itself has a junkie problem.
