Reality versus perceived reality.

When I was a child I was told that Santa Claus came at Christmas.

My father was always impressed that I went away and thought about it. Later, i approached my father and asked if he brought gifts to all the kids? Then I asked him how he was able to do it on one night?

I didnt think it was possible but if the adults said it was then it must be.

In school I was told that the earth was a globe. I thought about it. Then I asked the nun why we circumnavigate only easy to west and never north to south. The nun told me because Santa was at the north pole.

Then, as I became an adult with an engineering degree and thousand of hours solid modeling complex shapes I asked myself a simple question.

What is the diameter circumference of the earth as you move south from the equator?

I have not been able to find any data.

If we are on a globe then as you move south towards 90 degrees at some point the diameter must reduce back to zero.

Simple enough in reality but never verified but instead remains perceived reality.

Most circumnavigations involve traveling east or west because the connected oceans made it easier. A polar circumnavigation would require both land, ice, and sea transport whereas a east/west circumnavigation would only require a boat.

The Vendee Globe circumnavigation race is held every four years. I create parts that have defined shapes. If I am given the dimensions, I can define the shape as a solid model.

No need for sea or land expeditions. With current technology it should be a simple task to fly.

Flight paths on a plane horizontal and vertical rotated at 10 degree intervals or whatever would yield a defined 3d model.

With modern technology it could be live cast etc.

Understanding reality is the red pill. Understanding the reality of our world and the reality of women is related to reality versus perceived reality.

Until I reach my fifties thinking about such things more than a minute or so would make my brain kind of “Short Circuit” so instead of losing my mind I would stop trying to figure out logically them apparent contractions! And, for at least the third time now, Earth is not a globe or a sphere. It’s an oblate spheroid. Thanks to rotation and gravity, Earth is an approximately spherical body slightly flattened in the direction of it’s axis. That flattening produces a difference between equatorial and polar radii of about 20km.
