They’re gonna try to implement a tax to force men to marry a woman who would just take even MORE money from them in the divorce? One day the government is going to have to learn that you can’t keep beating on men with a stick to make them do what you want. We don’t work like that, and it makes us angry to boot. They’re going to end up in even worse straits than they are already in, and they’ll have no one there to help them straighten things out when the mess reaches its highest level.

Augustus described unmarried men as worse than murders and robbers. Unmarried men, according to Augustus, were immoral beasts:
