Need to vent

I run the marketing department for a private business. Our MD recently retired early due to health issues and the commercial director got his job so I now report directly to him.

I know you guys have warned me about female bosses but the power has gone to his head, is totally out of his depth and doesn’t know how to handle his emotions. He asked me to compile a report on the brutal realities facing our business. I gave him the truth and he crucified me for it.

He constantly asks the management team for constructive criticism but can’t take it. He said something to me this morning and I almost gave him my notice there and then.

I’m not in the best financial situation atm to be able to quit…but I know I’d be okay. I’d find something. Maybe it’s time to start my own business. I came here to vent so I don’t make any rash decisions, but I refuse to work for an asshole. My notice period is 6 months. I’d planned to have a new job by then anyway so maybe I should get my notice in now.

Using my current skillset probably digital marketing…but would be nice to play with something different for a change.

Don’t quit until you’ve got a new gig. Not sure, but a 6 month notice… would avoid playing their game and how 2 weeks. Try as much as possible to emotionally detach from your job duties. Good luck, brother!

How do you get 6 mos notice?

I know of at least one country that requires a month, but 6 months? That is a ridiculous amount of notice. But it puts you in a good spot. Giving that notice can potentially mean they realize they will lose you and better find out why… or else it gives you time to find something sustainable during that period…

It is traditional in my business to be lucky to get/give 3 weeks notice, 2 is normal.

Yeah I’ve gone the starting your own business route, and it turns out clients can be the exact same way. The good news is you can fire them if the problem is pervasive, but only if you have enough other clients to fall back on . . . In short, wherever you have people in business the problem persists. Maintain professional boundaries and enjoy the s~~~ sandwich. Oh and nice shades!

A six month notice is more then a lil ridiculous.

If you give them six months, they’ll give you six months of abuse because you are leaving anyways and they have nothing to lose.

On the other hand, maybe he won’t be even more of an asshole to you for your LAST SIX MONTHS. LOL

Thanks mate, that’s all I can do at this stage. Quiting is suicidal unless your in a comfortable position to do so. I know that but can act on my morals when people in higher positions are rude to me – no need for it.
