Hi Branched Off. (As always) you make some good points I can relate to.
It is possible to be self controlled. To unlearn desire is harder than to learn restraint.
Yes it is possible. Sidecar also talked about desire in past threads. The way I see it/experienced it or another way to phrase it is that for me at least desire is not ‘unlearned’ it kind off falls away to a certain extent by itself when it is ready to as you are moving past it – it simply becomes less important to you or something else becomes more important – it is a symptom of a mans internal state/consciousness. This may be in relation to any practice from eating bad food to being in a certain job. Again this depends on the individual imho and thought patterns – generally its good to drop desires that are not beneficial imho – BUT it can actually in some cases imho be detrimental for a man to forcibly deprive himself of a fulfilling a desire if he is not ready to drop that desire – it is filling some need in him at that time.
that’s well over 95% of women I can have with my SMV so it is easy for me to ignore tattooed single mothers but when a woman I actually like turns up that is harder for me.
I understand this – you are past 95% of them but ‘when a woman you actually like turns up it is harder’. I went through the same thing. I changed from having a very high need to have sex with women – to being monk mode/celibate for 3 years and honestly there was not one woman that attracted me enough to break that – I was on a natural high of health and wellbeing and vitality (and actual internal bliss) – I simply didnt need a woman – 99.99% of them were not on my radar. But there was that 0.01 %. It took a very high SMV girl that seemed to have spiritual values in line with my own (but didnt in reality) for me to have a relationship – and I hadnt been looking for one. That relationship was a final hard lesson for me about women in modern society – it brought me to this website. What I had before I met that woman was much better than being with her.
Life has taught me bad habits when it comes to celibacy. Recovering a more celibate culture may be an intergenerational thing? However, maybe I should just teach myself to try harder again?
Hmm – I would not be so critical of yourself – again I think this is an individual choice thing. Some men are ready for or inclined toward celibacy or monk mode at some stage in life – either when young or when older – and most men today are not – I would definitely not put it as one choice being ‘superior’ to the other – rather that it simply ‘is what it is’ – a choice. If this was not a society f~~~ed up by feminism/gynocentrism many MGTOW would not be MGTOW and would be in decent/at least somewhat better relationships with better values and more correctly aligned gender roles. If a man actually wants to be celibate and falls down temporalily in that practice there is no point in overly berating himself for his perceived ‘bad habit’ – and certainly noone else should judge anyone but themselves – and one mans goal/outlook may be different from another. Its should not be a judgemental thing imho. Either way each man will reap what he sows.
I have not had sex since my last relationship – I simply choose not to and that choice is relatively easy for me now (even with a healthy sex drive/vitality) (and I do recieve attention from pretty women) – 5 or 6 years ago that choice/path was more difficult. As you already mentioned most young men would find it difficult – we have been brought up in a society that encourages sex and instant gratification and bombards everyone with the prospect.
It is also just desiring more interesting things than a self indulgent resource seeking woman. I think, however that this is a later stage in life that comes with both experience and declining testosterone.
Yes probably in the vast majority of men ‘today’ – but not all – there are some men that are like this from a younger age.
The state of just not being bothered is hard to reach until experiment has satisfied curiosity.
Again yes probably in the vast majority of men ‘today’ – but not all – there are a few men that have different priorities.
