I read an article recently about a phenomenon in Japan where the vast majority of men are not getting married or even entering into relationships.
The trend is so wide spread now that these men are coined “Herbivore Men”.
Surveys of single Japanese men conducted in 2010 found that 61% of men in their 20s and 70% of men in their 30s considered themselves to be herbivores. Japan’s government views the phenomenon as one possible cause of the nation’s declining birth rate.
The root cause of this trend is that Japan’s economy is really not that great thus contributing to men making less money. Women refuse to marry a man without financial stability.
Although she claims she is not looking for a man who is perfect in every way, one of her conditions has proved more difficult than expected: she wants a partner with an annual salary of at least 4 million yen ($37,000), something that many men can’t live up to. In fact, nearly 70% of Japanese women expect their future spouse to earn at least 4 million yen per year, but in reality, more than 70% of unmarried Japanese men earn less than this. Because only one in four men is deemed “acceptable” by these standards, competition for marriage partners has become fiercer than ever in recent years.
Japanese women might be further discouraging men from entering into romantic relationships. Many women refuse men who do not have steady jobs (such as freeters and NEETs).Other women feel that self-proclaimed soushoku-kei danshi (herbivore men) are weak and not masculine, while some men apparently are not attracted to “independent” women. In a 2011 poll of Japanese boys aged between sixteen and nineteen, 36% said they were not interested in having sex; the figure for girls in the same age group was nearly double, at 59%.[18] Masahiro Morioka argues that Japanese herbivore men are a result of Japan’s post-war peace.
Gotta love how the article is phrased.
omething that many men can’t live up to.
Typical attitude is to dump it off on men, lay responsibility on men. What they fail to mention is that Japanese men aren’t really looking for fun. They want to frame it like men aren’t good enough or worthy enough of a woman. But they don’t address the other side of the story.
Men don’t want a relationship with women. Women aren’t women anymore. Men in Japan are expected to work 70 hour work weeks to pay for a person that doesn’t cook, clean, or do much of anything. And that’s supposed to be appealing?
You’ll find that most men are happy with a lower income, especially when they don’t have to spend EVERY F~~~ING DIME they have on women. Hell, as long as they’re happy, that’s what matters. And like always, a strong female bias to shame men into line. If 70% of men aren’t married, and the women are complaining about it, maybe it’s the men that walked away from it all?
That’s the truth, and that thought will never be entertained by our gynocentric society.
Feminism is a movement where opinions are presented as facts and emotions are presented as evidence.
This phenomenon has been covered a million times over.
A MGTOW is a man who is not a woman's bitch!

not sure how many new guys dig into the archives..Yeah it’s fine to re-hash topics here and there, although I think this one might be too soon. Everyone is at different levels on their journey and how long they’ve been here.
I don’t want to re-hash my thoughts again though. Great thing about going your own way, it seriously doesn’t matter what others think or do.
There’s like 125M Japanese cramped in an area the size of Montana, which has 1M people. The way I see it, Japan needs to drop down to its population of at most 100 years ago, which, I don’t know off the top of my head, but I think it was something like 10M.

True. But sadly, governments are run by and like corporations. Growth is needed to prop up FIAT money and Socialist Ponzi schemes… Wealth is created by new demand, not stagnating populations, so the governments of the world will drive mankind, and the planet to destruction all in the name of profits to be skimmed off the top by the few.

the problems going on in the South China Sea might solve that problem in the near future. In fact everywhere you look the whole planet is a tinderbox at the moment (definitely deliberate, but that is another topic)

If govt’s were run like corporations they would be fiscally responsible and show a profit complete with dividends to their shareholders- We The People!
Lifes a bitch, but you don't have to marry one!
I wonder if the Herbivore Men in Japan have any forums? That would make for an interesting read…

Yes, I do believe I have herbivore tendencies. I personally believe that herbivore gets too much press leaning towards the socioeconomic definition. For me, it’s more about overall lifestyle choices. I’m certainly not an omnivore or a carnivore .. maybe more of a scavenging and observing type herbivore.
This is amazing to see. It is like seeing what will eventually happen in the US and Europe in the next 20+ years. Kudos to our Japanese brothers for simply dropping out of a rigged rat race.
I think that is why the Japanese culture is so exotic and oftentimes odd to outsiders. The stress of a bad job market, mixed with an extremely high cost of living, stress of living on top of each other as well as the rigid economic/social structure all lead up to the need for some kind of release. Love hotels, anime and tentacle porn are all very popular in Japan.
I am an herbivore. Well, sort-of. I am not Japanese nor have I ever lived outside of America, but I am disinterested in romance, shun aggression, and eat a vegetarian diet (ah well technically ovo-lacto-vegetarian).
If they are like me, then they are just following their incentives. Romance, especially marriage, is obviously a minefield. Embracing meditation or any kind of spiritual practice is a common way of keeping the mind clear in the face of social pressure, and has a side-effect of eliminating the need to be aggressive.
I don’t eat meat because I find it gross. I don’t really have a sense of how common that reason is.
I still work out, and haven’t noticed any loss of strength or anything since I gave up meat over a decade ago…contrary to popular belief you can get loads of protein from plants.
So…herbivores are just guys who have chilled out a bit after escaping the plantation, IMO.
It is wise to fear dangerous commitments.
I eat the marrow out of all my kills. What do they call hyper-carnivores who don’t marry?
Kaiju?

The herbivore phenomenon and MGTOW do have one major attribute in common; the Powers-That-Be believe both to be causes when both are actually symptoms.
As Dr. Helen Smith correctly points out in her books detailing the so-called marriage strike, becoming a MGTOW, becoming a herbivore, or deciding not to marry is a rational choice given the societies in which men now live.
Men constantly make risk vs. reward calculations, both consciously and unconsciously. It’s what men do. It’s how we’re wired.
Do not date. Do not impregnate. Do not co-habitate. Above all, do not marry. Reclaim and never again surrender your personal sovereignty.

Anonymous3I want to also mention the term herbivore was coined by a woman and then filtered through the gynocratic Japanese media and then through the filter of the gynocratic US media. So keep some healthy skepticism.
They are probably far closer to us than people realize, perhaps they are in fact just MGTOW in Japan. After all, how many hit pieces has the Western media done about us, that we know are wrong and intentional hatchet jobs?
MGTOW is about not forcing men to do something while also mocking them for either doing or not doing it. That’s a bit more complicated than it needs to be, it’s generally just leaving men alone.
No man NEEDS to get married and be subservient to women or the government. It is in fact the very opposite: women and the government need to prove to men how they can make a man’s life better. Every man is a sovereign entity equipped to survive on his own, if men were not so, then women and the government would not be so desperate to harness men as disposable utility. They NEED us, we don’t need them. When men work together, everyone benefits, but at some point the psychopaths in government and women decide to take it for granted and think they have the right to order men around like slaves.
It doesn’t work that way for me nor should it for any other man. I am a free man. I will fight to the death for my freedom. I have the blood of the American forefathers pumping through my veins, men that left and pioneered to build their own culture, men who refused to pay pennies worth of tax to another entity, men that valued property rights, men that lived by the creed “Give me liberty or give me death!”. I am morally justified, and I have the strength and will to remain free. Women and the government realize this, and are careful to not push me. If all men were the same, I promise you things would be different. And slowly I’m beginning to see that happening.
MGTOW is like a wave, growing bigger and bigger and soon having the force of a tidal wave.
Kaiju?
I prefer the term “dick” or “asshole”, having never heard of Kaiju…but why not? I like to pretend I am open minded.
They are a lot like us folks.- AuthorPosts
