Maybe this is a dumb suggestion, but please throw it away if it’s silly to you.
Personally, I don’t play video games because I see it as a diversion away from all other things. A kind of procrastination. Not necessarily a “waste of time” because entertainment is not really a “waste of time”. It’s fun, but I still see it as a diversion. So I regard computers (and technology) as a tool – instead of a toy.
That means if I ever find myself dicking around with games (or whatever) in the back of my mind, a nagging message is constantly reminding me “you’re not DOING anything right now”. A a kind of self-shaming guilt trip, if you will.
So I’ll practice piano instead. Or clean something. Or I would WORK.
I admit it sounds silly, but I can spend 36 hours playing video games too, and it’s easy to become an addiction… I just remind myself that it’s not productive.
Good for you if you manage to quit , and like yourself better because of it. Whatever it takes, I suppose.
