I been addicted to games all my life. I know it’s time to quit. Deleted everything my friend changed passwords and account names for me. I feel a big relief now. These last three days since I been off work has made my mind clearer. Now I can use my time and money to plan my trip to Japan sooner.

Beware relapse and also see a professional. Video games are a largely safe addiction, you possess the wiring for another addiction as well consider that. Also long time no see god eater.

Put your time and effort in the real world and not the digital world and life will have at least a real opportunity to advance to your next level!

If it was the games that grind then yeah, its an addiction like WOW…I stick with strategy games for the stories..eg starcraft…not much of FPS but would love rpg games esp sequel to Chrono cross…Still I had my fair share of addiction to Dota When it was starting as well as other online grind games…Glad I kicked it off..It sucks you and wastes your time and money…Stay with different hobbies brother if your addiction was great…Sometimes, that game addiction is the symptom of a problem..Best of luck mate…

Yeah I did a year off of video games before. I was working out a lot and traveled a lot during that stretch. I built a really nice custom pc too. Think might just go back to apple again since it’s easier to not play games also better for photo/video. Yeah I looked at my hours playing csgo and was over 5000 hours. I cringe so bad right now what I could’ve done with that time. Well it’s going to be hard but I need to lose this addiction.

Dude you could just play when you have free time. Everything in life is about discipline. The games aren’t what is preventing you from achieving success, it is YOU!

If you feel that dropping them helps, then do it! Just know you can moderate it too! No need to go cold turkey.

Just live a balanced life YOUR way, and success will come!

Use the gaming PC for number crunching and programing. Also 5000 hours in csgo is a better investment than wimins.

Games are like addiction to TV esp with female addiction to the Kardashian bulls~~~, and similar to internet addiction or fakebook…Most addiction are symptoms of unresolved problems…An escape from the reality…I now play games for the story involved as some games have deep stories and are well researched that it gets you thinking outside the box..Moderation is key but if it is an addiction, stay away unless the underlying problem is resolved…

I have always thought that gaming was the new way of humans viewing situations. I encouraged my now 20 year old son, also with lego and Thomas the tank train engine creative designs that would fill the whole house.

I even tried to get him into robotics but it never stuck. I think he was too young.

Then the video game interface came along and blew window’s out of the water.

Now our biggest scariest weapons against terrorists is the drone completely controlled as a video game.

I think video games are good for learning how to use the latest technology.

I also don’t believe in these calling all these “habits” “addictions”. My opinion.

Hmm. Gaming is one of my favorite pastimes and I see nothing wrong with it, as long as you do not let it interfere with your physical health or your well being. I highly doubt you need to flat out quit gaming, but maybe just cut down on it if you feel like it’s stopping you from reaching your goals. I myself am quite content with going to work, hitting the gym, then grinding/raiding in WoW with my spare time, or maybe other games when I’m feeling burned out on it.

There was once a time in my life where I actually was gaming to the point of destroying my well-being. I eventually cut down in it, but I never fully quit it, even during pharmacy school. Gotta have some way to enjoy your time in between intense studying sessions. 🙂

Do what you think is best, but I don’t think it’s necessary to completely leave it behind, even if you’re just playing once a week or something.

I will put a word of caution to this. Removing something that you enjoy and spend that kind d of time with could lead to a different type of addiction.

Games are cheap compared to women. While it isn’t a productive hobby, it isn’t necessarily harmful. (Also, I’m a gamer. Long as you are getting the other things you need dome it may not be an addiction). If you racked up 5k hours over over 5 years (since the cargo release, looked up the date), that isn’t horrible.

Problem with tracking how much time is in a game is it doesn’t give the whole picture.

Just my 2 cents, but really do what you need to do for you. This place is about going your own way, and determining what is best for you. While that may not be the same for everyone, think this group will always support each other…. unless someone starts doing stupid s~~~ (like thinking about marriage).

Hope that someday I may lead others the path I have learned. As Virgil led Dante through Hell.

Agreed. If these were true addictions, you won’t be feeling that good about it, you’d be going through withdrawals. That doesn’t mean that habits can be overdone and interfere with your life. They tend to provide immediate gratification and keep you from enjoying the benefits that come with delayed gratification or from doing the things you need to properly sustain.

Of course, when a woman tells you that video games are bad, these are not her concerns. It’s not about you, but about how much attention you’re giving her and how other people view her because of your habits.

    Ok. Then do it.

Video games are a largely safe addiction…

No addiction is “safe”. It’s why the behavior is referred as an addiction.

No matter the “drug”, some people can find a balance while others cannot. Those who can’t moderate their use or behavior find themselves faced with an “all or nothing” choice. They either have to stop completely and never risk temptation again or circle deeper into their addiction with all the consequences.

It doesn’t matter if it’s booze, pot, drugs, porn, sex, women, gaming, gambling, reading, lifting, surfing the ‘net, or any of thousands of other substances and activities, any addiction is by definition bad.

If GodEater feels he needs to step away from video games to get his bearings, he should be applauded for having the insight and discipline to do so. It doesn’t mean he’s going to completely quit video games for the rest of his life. It only means he’s looking at restoring some balance.

I need to kill this addiction. It’s costing me money and a lot of time. I have books I’ve been needed to read but hadn’t. So many things I want to do but video games ruined my life. I can’t play a hour or two day. I tried and it always fails. That one hour turns into 12 hours. Its not going to be easy but I must do this to live a better life.

Like OldBill said, when it interferes with your life you must cut down doing it. Or, if it helps cut it out all together. It’ll take 2 weeks of it being difficult then your new habits, like reading, will become your new normal.

Just don’t get addicted to reading. I spent a year about two years ago reading everything I could about ancient classical history. It was really to exclusion of other things in my life.

But then one day I got over it. Now I have other hobbies.

By the way, I’m now a level 110 Fury Warrior ilvl 887 and do world quests and random battle grounds…lol.

    Good.

    Now get out there.

Life is the greatest video game.

Personally, I have not had a television or cable in over 12 years. My house is full of boxes of books.

And hanging out with my dog is great entertainment.

My only source of internet is my phone.

    Simplify.

Well, how about that! I’m a 900 Fury Warrior who just killed Mythic Krosus a couple of days ago. I off-spec as protection for M+ dungeons when it’s needed. If you’re alliance, hit me up if you wanna run an M+ some time. That goes for any other WoW players here as well.

    You did that too?

I constantly have to keep track of how much time I spend reading and I still occasionally slip up. While I’d always been a constant reader with two or more books “open” at once, it was when I began traveling for business that what had been a habit tipped towards becoming addiction.

For a while, swearing off buying hardbacks and keeping my library card out of my wallet helped. With the explosion of ebooks and readers however, it’s harder to control the temptation and maintain some balance.

^ Have played CoD in the past, still like to dig up the ol’ Call of Duty 4 occasionally. I also love old school shooters like Quake and Doom. In fact, I just booted up a HD mod of Quake yesterday and loving it.
