    What would you do?

I’d ask what’s the purpose? Who is just gonna give you 5000 bucks without wanting something in return?
Anyways, I guess I’d go on a trip to Guadalupe or Tahiti.

Don't let them Blame, Shame or Tame you!
Give 'em NOTHING, not even an answer!

    Slay debt!

I though you were gonna say buy an engagement ring. (J/K)

    That’s the best advice.
Pay off those blood suckers so they go away.
Hmmm That makes debt and woman sound like the same thing.

Get my arcade and pinball collection started. If not, put it in with my savings so I can put it towards a future home.

$5000.00 is a tricky amount because it’s too much to carry around so you have to put it somewhere .. however the alternatives are also tricky. If you put it all in the bank, even with a Certificate of Deposit, you’re slowly losing to inflation.
With the markets artificially propped up to current levels, stocks or even bonds ar also tricky .. if I put it into equities I’d have to do it alone and would probably slowly lose. No financial advisor will welcome me in for a one-time $5000.00 and if I buy in myself, I can see it dropping when the next black swan hits .. which might be sooner than later. jmho.
So what else is there to do with an amount too big to put under mattress yet not quite big enough to get into playing the rigged game.

I’d say spend roughly $1000.00 on something you really want. Just have some fun getting a couple of pricey toys.
Put $2000.00 into an interest bearing checking account at a Credit Union where rates are much higher than at banks, i.e. a CU Money Market with checking, to have over the next few years to carry as a rainy day fund with access when needed. Yes, you’ll still be losing a little to inflation .. but wait.
Put the other equal $2000.00 into physical Gold and Silver. No one knows exactly where these precious metals will go .. but they will probably rise and fall with a net rise over the next few years. Probably, a nice rise. Precious metals have protected value for thousands of years. Just see this asset as a counterbalance to your rainy day fund. Physical metals are not always the easiest to sell in a hurry .. but, see them as a preservation of assets for life .. don’t plan to sell them (you always certainly could) .. but don’t, just let them steadily increase in net value despite some bumps along the way. Just think of them once in awhile and smile as you see the news stories of your physical gold and silver quietly increasing in overall value .. for life.

    Pay off debt
    Invest a portion
Save a portion, or buy commodities with it
It’s to small amount to get any decent real estate but a nice nest egg.

Great topic! I agree with everyone so far. First, eliminate debt if you have any. Second, invest in what you understand, something that will provide for further growth. Finally, shut the hell up about it, no one needs to know what you have or they will want a piece of it. /see May 7 2020/

Pay off the last bit of student debt. Invest a thousand, and buy a new stereo system for my truck. The stock one blows.

In the following order, this is what I would do :

1)Pay off any credit cards/loans (If I had any).
2)Pay $5000 off from my mortgage.
3)Put the money into the highest interest paying account I could (assuming I had little other savings)

If I didn’t really need the money I would then move onto the following riskier long term strategies.

    4)Buy Apple/Facebook Shares.
5)Buy Ethereum. I actually looked into this a few months ago when they were $12 each but didn’t go through with it. They are now $50 each…….
6)Buy 4 ounces of gold. Easy to hide and there is something satisfying about holding them in your hand every once in a while.

And lastly as I don’t currently have a car and will need to buy one soon I would probably buy the best car I could for $5k.

As has already been mentioned, slay debt if you have any.
