I tried hard to find previous iterations on this matter but they’re buried deep.
What I really wish we had better on this forum – is the search engine.
This one isn’t really functional, since you can’t find s~~~ when you need it.
Therefore we have to start anew on same topics every three month or so, because unless it’s some unique word combination you’re searching for – it’s nearly impossible to find anything.
Don’t want to sound like I’m complaining, but I’m going to ask Santa to bring this forum something like this for Christmas:

Won’t give you a wall of text on why, but I’ve always hated it on every site that has it. Maybe it’s because I play a lot of online games, and those forums are filled with LOLZ +1 umadbro?
Sounds like a legit question to me. As a long time gamer online, I certainly can relate to the point he made.
There doesn’t need to be a dick sizing contest here about who has the most “stars” just as there doesn’t need to be any whining about the system.
Agree…not sure where the whining is in asking a question that he already explained why it was bothering him, from his experiences online with gaming & youtube, as examples.

Gonna give the benefit of the doubt. I realize we are wanting to make sure we don’t have “undesirables” here, but I have to decide if I believe his intent, or not.
I know I just recently came back, but it is really cool seeing men ask questions regarding things that want more understanding on.
At any rate, I can relate to the OP. It is a really cool feature on this site, but other sites, it is a pain in the ass more times than not.

This. Its not an e-peen contest but I think a benefit of it is it makes it easy to filter out the tuna. When you get someone with very few stars who hasn’t been here long who is posting stupid trollish s~~~ its pretty obvious its in our best interest to just ignore them and have the mods do their thing.

As for whining, eqlife compared the system here with the one at Yahoo Answers where people post their nonsense all day long just to “rank up”. He also compared it to the new youtube heroes bulls~~~ that came out and he “feels” that it creates a weird digital hierarchy that just makes things feel less sincere.
There is no hierarchy here, perceived or otherwise. The $10 monthly Galt memberships provides a few benefits but it’s more about helping support the site rather than purchasing bragging rights. Posts aren’t rated in any real sense either because negative points can’t be awarded.
The number of “stars” any member has below their name is not an indication of their worth and only a fool would believe otherwise.
Speak your mind, make your posts, agree with those you like, and don’t worry about how many “stars” the other fellow has.

( We don’t have the +1 just to stroke egos )My own number of likes (count) doesn’t show , but its nice to know someone read it and appreciated it. Think of it more like an “appreciate” button.
We also implemented post ratings originally because we were going to link privileges to it. Such as …. 100+ stars would allow new members to create threads instead of just replying.
At present, we allow new participants to create threads, but if we said:
• “under 100 stars and you can only reply”.
• “+100 stars and you can create one thread per day”.
• “+200 stars and you can create more”.….. then that would eliminate hothead trolls until they build up some kind of forums reputation first. However, it would prevent new members from creating an intro – which is very valuable and essential here. So for now there is no such restriction and for the most part it’s not necessary.

That second example I wish that it was made up because that is downright wrong on so many levels.

I usually give a star when I see an excellent post or any post that I reply to. If I reply to a post, it has to be excellent anyway. This system works on MGTOW. But on a forum like facebook the like button can destroy lives. Women seem to be totally dependent on likes and validation, and it wouldn’t surprise me if the only reason they ever post anything is to get those likes.
Someone even ‘defriended’ me once when I didn’t press the like button on any of her selfies.

Well, by your logic, tons of my posts are nothing more than me whining, BECAUSE many of my experiences guess what, didn’t happen here, they happened in my life, digital and in the real word.
As for the “feels”, yeah, even us men have them. They are expressed quite often. We are going to have this hangup about the word? We certainly don’t have a problem expressing our feelings here. Not just anger either, but it is the main one, due to red pill rage, etc.
Guess my experiences don’t matter here either. His experiences online don’t count here?? We are online, and speak of gaming & youtube on this forum often, in one form or another.
If a man doesn’t f~~~ing count here, then where the f~~~ does he count?
And it also applied to him, because he didn’t understand the system, in those places, AND why it’s used here.
I don’t want my posts to s~~~ up this forum with my whining about ALL my experiences that make ME WHO I AM, and the many times I have asked questions about it as well as everything else I have asked questions about.
I Listen to grown men calling people names and talking at & down to each other time and again, and that is fair game, but asking a question is whining.
I do a public apology for not being here, screw this. I already stated I can relate to the OP, f~~~ the stars, people talk like experiences outside of this website are null & void.

Anonymous1It could work as incentive to think before writing, to actually show the others that you are capable of original opinions. It can drive some to write funny or interesting posts. The question is, do you write for stars or to give your view of the question/answer?
A number under your nickname, does that really bothers you that much? do you feel like others have too much? it is because time and effort they have spent on MGTOW, nothing more nothing less.
I am not bothered by this topic, I see no problems with an easy thing as the +1 system. For me it is simply a way to agree with others and show my appreciation for the time they have spent thinking and writing, respect is earned.Another important thing is that this system works as “tuna spot”; when assholes, tunas, etc. come here to joke, cry or search for attention, you can see them with 0-2 stars(the friends of the idiot? Pauline anyone?) and the people who are making fun of them with 6-20 stars.
It is just fine, deal with your view of the system because it should be one of those things that do not bother you.

Eh, I see it as both a ranking of quality of posts and popularity of poster, since I don’t know what motivated the +1. Both are useful I think, as I think someone who makes quality posts and/or has earned the popularity/respect of others here should be treated with respect.
On the other side, I recognize that those with low stars are probably new, and although still deserving of respect, may need more encouragement or education on the subject. I don’t like it when people with lower ratings come out preachy to the higher ratings.
But the reality is that you need to actually get to know who you’re talking with to really know who you are talking with. Stars can’t replace that.
Unfortunately, I often forget to rate posts as I read. I’m not helping out in that regard.
The tags system doesn’t really seem to work for me. Usually, the tags don’t have anything in there that would help a search. It seems it would be more useful if there was a list of tags you could select from to keep it under control. Then again, I don’t have much use for searching for old posts. General information about MGTOW can be found outside of the forums, and it’s not really a big deal to start a new topic on something that’s been discussed before. People don’t seem to care about the repeats.

This isn’t about “invalidating” someone’s experiences. This about calling out someone on their s~~~.
eqlife specifically compared this site and it’s +1 system to Yahoo Answers where he notes “people post their nonsense all day long just to rank up.” What he fails to realize, perhaps deliberately, is that there is no rank here. Garnering stars gives a member no real benefit.
Men don’t post nonsense here to earn stars because those stars don’t mean a f~~~ing thing.

No one said eqlife couldn’t ask a question, so you can stop the white knight act. We explained why the system exists and told him why his perception of it was wrong. Nothing more. eqlife’s complaints were based on primarily ignorance and employed faulty analogies. Nothing more.

Without the +1 system, I’d have never known what posts I had already read and what I didn’t. I usually give a +1 to every post I read, even if I’m totally against it.
I know that if you give out something too much way too often, it becomes valueless. But I agree that its a good way to acknowledge others’ viewpoints with ease and to avoid unnecessary posts.

Saw a new member who was taking criticism, and he responded with some s~~~ about how a member with 2k “stars” can say something like that.
It’s normally only an indication that someone has been here a while and hasn’t majorly f~~~ed up.
Had to put the stars in quotes too because it’s cringe worthy as f~~~ otherwise.
If there was no ratings system – the forum would be full of unnecessary posts like:
“You’re so right!”
“Right on!”
“Damn right!”
“What he said”
“Absolutely”
and so on
