How does everyone feel about the +1 system?

I have been visiting this site for at least 3 years, but something that bothers me is the “like” system on the forums. Won’t give you a wall of text on why, but I’ve always hated it on every site that has it. Maybe it’s because I play a lot of online games, and those forums are filled with LOLZ +1 umadbro? type s~~~, but I think getting rid of it would benefit this community more than it would hurt it. It’s kinda like yahoo answers…people over there post their nonsense all day long just to “rank up”. Same with the new youtube heroes bulls~~~ that came out. It creates a weird digital hierarchy that just makes things feel less sincere.

Just wondering what everyone else thinks. I’m not tryin to stir up s~~~ around here…just a thought I had while I was reading the comments on a news article.

Hi man. I personally think it is a cool thing on this site. There have been some posts that were so outstanding, I wanted to give more than just a +1 to it.

Obviously, it is by far, way better to respond to the post and share why it made such an impact on me, or why I believe it has validity and all that.

However, if it is an area that is not a long suite of mine, to carry on in an intelligent conversation, I wind up usually being put off by it.

Too easy to come across ignorant, wrong, etc. Then it’s far too easy for people to misunderstand one’s intent. I get this vibe often in my life, when I do have to deal with people.

They get annoyed, angry and so on, because I try to engage myself in a conversation that is of interest to me, but then they start that condescending bulls~~~ and lose credibility with me due to the lack of respect.

Then they wonder why I don’t hang out with them again. LOL.
My 2 cents…

For me, I just don’t f~~~ing care anymore to be subjected to that nonsense. I am all for earning respect, but I ain’t eating someone’s s~~~ to try & earn it.

the + 1 is good and bad.
i’ve been here for quite a while..
so i have a lot of likes..
do i deserve more weight to what i say because i’m here longer ?
can’t say..
now, sometimes i go on a “like” spree..
certain members appeal to me for whatever reason..
especially newer members..
i will +1 them as much as i can,
because how else can i encourage them ?

downside is if i’m feeling lazy and a man deserved a +1 and i didn’t hit the like for him..
sometimes i go back and “like ” them anyway..

I really do not see it as that big of a deal. I could post all I want and if it was garbage I’d still probably get 0 stars for it. Can’t give your self stars either. This isn’t youpube people here only tend to give stars for quality posts. The audience base is different than those other sites you speak of. Honestly why would you care about such fourm ratings anyway, they have no bearing on going your own way. Just a fourm device, and a neat interaction tool we have with each other here. Just how I see it.

I like it. It shows where people are comeing from. What people find helpfull, what people dont give a s~~~ about, or if something is funny to every one. A polite way of saying thanks to every one that responded to your posts.

THIS.

The +1 system allows someone to agree with a post without having to post and that prevents a flood of mindless “ditto” posts.

Not having to type out a dozen or so “ditto” posts a day, also gives you the time to think about and write posts with worthwhile content.

Unlike other sites, the +1 system here provides a member with no tangible benefits. You don’t get ranked and you don’t earn status by gaining “stars”. All that those “stars” tell you is that other members here appreciate your posts. Nothing more.

There doesn’t need to be a dick sizing contest here about who has the most “stars” just as there doesn’t need to be any whining about the system.

Do not date. Do not impregnate. Do not co-habitate. Above all, do not marry. Reclaim and never again surrender your personal sovereignty.
