Well, first off don’t blame yourself for having been a white knight. Many of us were brought up to believe that in order to be a good man, we had to protect and serve those who were weaker than us. And of corurse the corollary to that was these people we protected and served would then look up to us and love us back in their own way.

Unfortunately it just doesn’t work like that… they weren’t teaching us to be good members of the community, loving partners and family men, they were teaching us to be proxies and draft horses. We just didn’t know any better. And instead of blaming the institutions that handed us this bogus script or the “weak and underprivileged” who benefited from our selfless and stupid behavior, we denigrated the strong and successful who got what they wanted… what WE wanted… by breaking those rules and just plucking and eating the fruit for themselves that we worshipped from afar and hoped would simply fall into our laps.

So now you know… the people who get what they want are the people who take what they want… and I’ll add that this is not always a bad thing. Females want to be taken just as surely as fruit grows to be eaten. Now you just have to reconcile the idea that you can be powerful, aggressive and successful without harming anyone or taking something that does not want to be taken. That’s the hardest part of recovering from white knightery… realizing and accepting that all the dragons you’ve been trying to slay were actually sent by the maiden to keep the weak willed and self sacrificing from ever making it to the castle while the strong and powerful men were simply handed the keys to the back gate, if you catch my drift.

This is so succinct and eloquent that it left me speechless. It’s just amazing how it sums up white knighthood and what one has to do to GHOW.
Doc, this reply of yours needs it’s own entry into the archives. Excellent sir.

The answer is NO. “I could but I won’t”. Memini murum!
