If tipping was effective way of guaranteeing ‘good service’ then people would leave a pile of cash behind in their hospital room for the surgeon after brain or heart surgery.

And there would be a tip jar outside of the c~~~pit for the pilots so passengers could tip them for landing safely.

Tipping as a concept is a direct result of the fact that the workers that are being tipped are already working at jobs where their base, hourly pay is not enough to live on.

I don’t go out to eat unless I’m able at that point in time to tip a solid 20% – and I don’t blame the server for factors and things that are out of their control.

Probably not much. I know at the grocery store I go to they have 6 of them and they always have 1-2 people watching them probably partially to deter theft and partially because they get screwed up/operator error often, and I’m sure they cost more to buy/maintain than traditional registers. There usually isn’t a line for them either so its not like all 6 are used steadily. They still have actual people ringing too, how many varying depending on what time of day it is.

I kind of figured if they saved a bundle that would be all they have right now, but most the stores around here, if they put in any at all, it was one group of them years ago when they were new and they haven’t added anymore. One thing I’ve always wondered in the grocery store is how many pounds of fruit/produce get rung out as something that looks similar but is much cheaper…like some exotic 4.99 a lb apples getting rung out as the .99 a lb apples.

I look at it as, if I have to bag my own s~~~, and ring myself out, why do I need to shop in your store? I avoid these places as much as possible. Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc… fk them. Pay somebody, and make them f~~~ing stand there and ring people out. I have to get the s~~~ myself, ring myself out, and then bag my own s~~~? fk that!
