I live in a Castle Doctrine State versus a Stand Your Ground State. My State pretty damn liberal when it comes to blasting people in self-defense. Killing looters is considered a sport.

First off, drawing a lethal weapon on someone who is unarmed and especially not being physically on your property could possibly put you up on a felony assault with a deadly weapon charge. So, I think you f~~~ed up badly with that move. You never pull a weapon unless you KNOW you are going to kill in legitimate self-defense.

Even killing someone in legitimate self-defense off of your property can get you sued in civil court by the decedent’s family here. You are protected from civil liability while on your property. You have to be very careful about the laws. They vary wildly here in the US. That being said I was once involved in a Mexican Standoff with a member of the Dixie Mafia after we got caught target shooting near a grass airfield where they landed drugs and moonshine. I was not going to be held captive, and they would not have called the law.

Had knives pulled on me 3 times in my life time and I remember each and every one of them vividly. Always made sure there was a solid door or wall between me and the knife though.

I am surprised those idiots were dumb enough to go banging on someone’s door armed with nothing. You never know what people have stashed. I have a machete, a baseball bat and a hunting bow and am building up a nice collection of medieval weapons. Do people really think they can just barge in someone’s house with them there and not expect to at the very least come up against a serious kitchen knife?

Should’ve told the cops that you suspect they were on drugs maybe they could’ve hauled them off right there and then. Moving just makes it someone else’s problem.

Gargamel, I live in lightning alley! High iron content in the hills just outside pioneer valley, I was in a lightning field and zapped in the basement while operating a drill press. Boom and zap were micro seconds apart! I can point out trees everywhere that were struck by lightning. nice thing about living in sw ks ok panhandle n tx is the old west never went away. the need to protect yr self never died out. using reasonable force against someone who had it coming is kinda the rule out here.

the cattle drives stopped a long time ago, but I would assume the guys who drive cattle trucks are armed. the oil and gas guys I know carry a rifle in their trucks, again remote, far from police…sometimes a coyote or hawk needs to be taught a lesson. I bring something when I leave town.

I can understand the knife carrying statistic fully especially in your tightly controlled country versus the US. However, if I’m carrying concealed and need to use it the last thing an aggressor is going to see is a muzzle flash and then fade to black. We can open carry firearms freely as well as knives. It has a deterring effect. I think concealed carry is better to maintain stealth. Burglars tend not to ply their trade when people are home especially in the South and non-Massachusettsified parts of the Western US.

I’ve been shot at twice and held people off at gunpoint twice. I can assure you that being on the receiving end of the barrel of a gun has a very sobering effect. 98% of the time an aggressor will back down when a victim has a gun w/o a shot being fired.

Because of my “almost 24/7” job, I had the need to go out eating in restaurants twice a day and late at night very often. And in this position I also began to witness so many things that made me puke and sent shivers down my spine. And I always drove home at night perfectly happy and convinced that it is good to come home to a place without a c~~~ in it.

Whenever I saw a c~~~ doing something awful, it made me have some feeling of inner warmth that is hard to describe… Like seeing the downpour of rain come down from behind the window of a cozy and warm house…
