Couple of days back clicked on a link on this site that was a porn video. Guy shuts up woman by sticking his c~~~ in her mouth. Very funny, but not the consequences for my hard drive. Had a spare PC (one of many I keep), and decided to give Ubuntu Studio a go.

Amazed at how quick and easy the install was compared to Win7. However, a totally new computing environment for me.

Getting to grips with it slowly, but would like to know if anyone can recommend a “YouTube Downloader” program I can install to grab interesting videos etc.?

There are obviously help pages online but it’s like starting from scratch for someone who’s used Windows for over 20 years.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

What actually happened that f~~~ed your computer up? what kind of virus or malware did you get?

Free porn sites are absolutely loaded with that sort of garbage. Stay away from them. Don’t get complacent either. Linux is not immune to malware, although it isn’t likely to completely trash your system like Windows, stuff like keyloggers can still plant itself inside your user account.

Try the Firefox extension Video Download Helper – been using it for years myself. Most of the time it works, but lately I’m seeing it sometimes needs some persuasion. If that fails go to keepvid.com

I can’t remember now. Some s~~~ that Spybot Search and Destroy couldn’t clear. Just p~~~ed me off. I get all OCD about infections on my system like I would with infections in my body. I’m no IT genius so I have a small binary program on floppy that can wipe most discs clean – fill with zeros. MAXBLAST3.

Seem to have spent every weekend this month trying to get a stable system. Downloaded “HIJACK THIS” to see what’s running and lots of s~~~ sucking my bandwidth and corrupting files. So I cleaned the lot, then this f~~~ing dodgy link put me straight back to square one.

Might not seem a big deal to some, but I don’t watch TV at all, so my PC is my entertainment superhub. I like to download videos, edit them, convert them etc. I also do this with music and convert to MP3. Youtube is a great source of rare music. I also download MGTOW videos if I think they stand out.

Just sick of Windows being so fragile. Ubuntu installed in about an hour and worked straight away. No need to install drivers and all the usual p~~~ing around you have to do to get set up. It just worked. I’m using it now. Win7 still hasn’t re-installed properly!

Just wondered if anyone else had got p~~~ed off with Windows and migrated as well? I tried Win10 and found it to be designed for women who use smart phones. I particularly didn’t like all the real time tracking and constant updates that reset your preferences.

Wish I wasn’t so dumb on IT.

Had Windows 10 briefly. But the hard drive it was running on was killed by a laptop that slowly kills every hard drive installed in it. So I never reinstalled it.

Went back to Windows 7. I have no intention of using Windows 10 in the future. I have been preparing for a post Windows world for many years now. When Windows 7 goes, I don’t forsee proceeding with Windows.

My thoughts exactly! Man I so miss XP. I could configure that and see what was going on. All my old games played on it as well.

I don’t want big stupid buttons to press, I want menus, Logical file systems, ability to set my own security.

If they hadn’t turned off XP I would still be using it in some form now.
I got the impression with WIN10, that it was a free upgrade because the data they sold of your browsing paid more than the retail price of the software itself.

That’s what UNIX and it’s clones are good for. Best operating system variant to have when you want total control. I actually can’t really live without it anymore, or else I start getting agitated. Although it’s not much of a games platform and historically has not been.

The problem with Windows XP is that architecturally it’s ancient. But there’s no reason that Microsoft couldn’t have put that look and feel onto a current build of Windows NT.

Windows 10 is also designed to railroad you into a subscription service in the future, in which you will use software as a service. Which is basically just the mainframe concept reincarnated. I’m not feeling that. I want my files on my computers.

Anyone has any info on OS X for desktop ?

I will be going from Win 7 to new desktop system and from what i hear Win 10 is a huge step towards Idiocracy that 15 years ago appeared only in movies.

Or any other alternatives really, not being control freak in time we live is just stupid.

It’s ok I wasn’t Bitchin’. well maybe just a little. My fault for blindly clicking links without seeing where they led. If I’d have stopped and read the following comments in the post I’d have seen Pistol Pete’s warning not to click “It’s a virus”. Too late though.

I’ll be more careful in future, and, if I get on well with Ubuntu it might actually have turned out to be a good thing.

Made me think though, that our detractors could cause Havoc by setting up profiles on here then posting links to malicious software just to f~~~ us up a bit.

Then again, that assumes they’ve got the smarts to do that 😉

Heard back from the member just now who posted it and he’s very sorry and rogers the implications. He intended for it to be just funny – and one can see the “humor” in it – but shoving a c~~~ in her mouth because she won’t stop complaining is actually a reward she doesn’t deserve.

Good advice Rennie, and I appreciate your knowledge regarding Unix/Linux.

Unfortunately I’m not Monk so still need to get some things outta’ my system every now and again. Free Porn sites aren’t ideal (I usually stick to PornHub), but my imagination is limited.

And if truth be told, as damaging as an on-line computer virus infection can be, it’s never going to compare to the filthy infections you can pick up off-line.

The doctors haven’t come up with a program that can clean your Body’s blood like a Low Level format and BIOS Flash can clean your PC system.
