I was thinking about learning German. But I can’t figure out a reason to. All Germans speak English nowadays. Great German literature? I don’t like Kafka, and I can’t really name that many German writers I’d be interested in. There’s philosophy, but that’s a new level of German. There’s Einstein, but that’s pretty much about it.

Key, have you read Mark Twain’s Essay, The Awful German Language? You’ll get a kick out of that.
