As the weather is getting cooler, I see more and more people out running.

Yesterday, they must have had some local run for charity as I never saw so many fat and out of shape people huffin and puffin it down the road.

I was out for a short drive this evening after dinner and saw more Old out of shape people trying like hell to run on the hard cement.

It never ceases to AMAZE me how many people that I see that still choose to jog/run.

The obese individuals that are carrying an extra 50 lbs. or more are really beating the sh)t out of themselves, but they will probably quit before long, but the people that are “in shape” will continue to punish their joints over the long run.

Personally, I know of more than a handful of people that have had knee and/or hip replacements. These are not necessarily people that are in there 70’s.

Joint operations/replacements are so damn common yet I still see the future hip and knee replacement running club out FREQUENTLY….Whatever, Better THEM than ME

Brisk walking gives almost the same cardio benenfits as running without beating the s~~~ out of joints and feet.

I’ve taken to using the rowing machine at the gym. You can get a hell of a cardio work out on it, its a more full body workout than running, and its pretty minimal in terms of stress on joints. Screw running.

I did crossfit for six months or so a few years back and man was that stupid. You’d do circuit workouts…maybe go run 1/4 mile, come in and do some cleans, run a quarter mile, do some cleans, etc. How stupid is it to go get yourself winded then do some technical lift that requires good form? First thing that happens when you are breathing heavy and getting tired is your form goes to s~~~. Crossfit might as well be renamed the Future Shoulder Surgery Club lol.

Its not good to get no exercise, but yeah, why do s~~~ that is going to leave you broken when you get into your 50s or 60s when other options are available. Its not like running is the only form of cardio one can do.

Actually, it gives exactly the same benefit. The only catch is, you have to cover the same distance, which will take longer if youre walking. A five mile walk takes an hour. A five mile run can be done in 42 mins.

I laugh to myself too Awakened, when I see obese people on the trail running. Theyre determined to get Shin Splints.

You have to walk and diet, then ride a bike daily… then MAYBE after several months of vigorous bike riding you might be thinned out enough to start trying some short runs.

I was 230lbs a year ago. Now Im 207lbs. I could NOT keep a jog/run sustained past a half mile. Now I can run a Half Marathon, all 10min miles or better.

    It all started by Walking.
Then I got a Gravel Bike and rode it 10 miles everyday for months.
    Then I started jogging… 3Ks… 5Ks… 10Ks… and finally 21K (13.1 Mile Half Marathons).

Im 33. You have to start somewhere, sometime.

There is a dude here that posts sometimes, he lost over 40lbs + and is about to get a divorce. His wife is a crazy bitch. He posts in Health forum sometimes

Ill probably need a new hip and knee eventually. Fvck it. Nothing lasts forever, grind it out because its worth it.

I envy those people in exotic places that dont have to limit themselves to traditional exercise like running, biking or weights.

Dont fukk your joints, swim or bike hard like a mad man for awhile, and then hit a heavy bag for awhile.

I like swimming myself. Since I love to dive it makes sense.

I do an intense 15 minute Tabata routine using a sledgehammer and tire several times a week.

It kicks the s~~~ out of running for cardio, builds powerful forearms and helps to develop more punching power.

    I highly recommend it.

bunch of Running haters. LMAO! grinning ear to ear with every sour pus5 comment about shoulders hurting, knees aching and the general discomfort of Jogging and Running.

LOL. I get it though, I feel happy and invincible at 33 but it aint all Gravy and Biscuits at 50.

Knee replacement hurts like a bitch, but after it heals, isnt it good to go?

Like mentioned above, there are plenty of low/no impact aerobic options…swimming, tread mill, elliptical, rowing machines, brisk walking etc.

Ill probably need a new hip and knee eventually. Fvck it. Nothing lasts forever, grind it out because its worth it.

It’s NOT worth it, and you won’t think that it is if the day comes when they have to literally cut off your knees and/or hips, and that’s usually only after years of pain and operations.

WHY WOULD YOU THINK THIS IS “WORTH IT” WHEN THERE ARE SO MANY NO/LOW IMPACT OPTIONS?????

Do what ya want, but I hope as you age you don’t regret YOUR CHOICES?????

Hey, I get it. I thought that way in my late 20’s through my mid 30’s. Played basketball way too long into my 30’s. Now I feel it in my knees and back. Not super bad, but bad enough. Now I see articles that say “20 minutes of HIIT is as good as 45 minutes of walking” and I think “so 45 minutes of walking is as good as 20 minutes of HIIT?”

I know a guy who is 60. He just got his knee replaced. He rides a Road Bike and ran marathons for years, now he just rides. Ill ask him if he thinks the surgery was worth it.

Im curious to know if the pain is still there after recovery from knee replacement.

Its always a struggle to find New ways to keep fit and get cardio. A rowing machine sounds great, but sitting in a gym is not for everyone. We have to keep finding new ways to make it interesting for us to stay active. ( HAPPY FACE )

Personally, when I was young and dumb I did my share of damage, but NOW I’m all about trying to preserve original equipment for as long as possible with good pain free mobility, but hey that’s just me…

If running a marathon is more important to YOU then do that…….. DO WHAT YOU WANT, IT”S YOUR BODY/LIFE !!!

I use to swim all the time when I was younger and I hear it is great exercise. I wish I had a place to swim now, but there is no place where I live.

I never did care much for running, but I do like to walk…….or actually I guess it may be called hiking since I like to go in the woods and up and down hills. Weather should be cooling off soon and I’ll get out and walk. I need it, really bad.

I like swimming and used to go to a local pool, but gave it up after being accused by a lardbucket of ‘looking at her underwater’. That was over a decade ago, so false allegations are not new.

My then wife also gave up going to the same pool because she got sick of being approached by aggressive dykes in the changing room.

I can’t stand to be around people, so public pools are not an option for me, but I have tried in the past. I need a lake, or river like I used to swim in when I was a kid back home.

I only speculate, but Id guess that over 50% of the people who sign up for ANY gym, are there mostly because they want to pick people up or eyeball fvck them, or some other type of sick social satisfaction… It aint because they need a place to work out. Its an attention craving

That is the same reason I quit LA Fitness, fvcking homosexuals in the showers.

I’m buying an E bike just for this reason. I’m over weight plus I have psoriatic Arthritis at 42 years old. If you not have ridden an a New electric assist bicycle. Let me tell you they are amazing. You still have to peddle them and you still get your heart rate up and the blood flowing without killing yourself in the process. They are just amazingly fun! I highly recommend them.

I am quite lucky in that I have a tiring job and so I don’t bother with taking exercise outside work, except if I fancy a walk or a swim or I have to carry a deer up a hill (boy that tires you if you are trying to hold it in an odd way to avoid getting a lot of ticks on you).

One thing I have noticed is how many of my clients are getting hip and knee replacements. A lot of them were keen athletes or played rugby at a high standard when young. I am pretty sure there is a correlation. Also I understand it is an operation that leaves you never quite right again, just in a lot less pain till it wears out and they have to take it out again.

That said its a bit of a dammed if you do dammed if you don’t thing however you do it. Work hard and you are likely to get a bad back after a while (like me). Stay home and do nothing and you are likely to have a dull life and being dull and sedentary is not good for keeping yourself lively in mind and body. Go and do a lot of artificial exercise and you will get a lot of fairly useless strength (you should see the gym monkeys when they try a bit of real work for a few days, they look about to expire because they have lots of weight to carry and muscles that only know how to push all at once in the same direction) and you risk injury from repetitive actions. You also spend a lot of money going to sweat in a room from of often vain people. You can’t win either way. If you could be a country gent, eat the best food, ride to hounds, walk the moors to shoot grouse and stags in Scotland, stroll about your land telling plebs what they are doing wrong and take week long trips to walk about seeing sights in other countries you would probably be in great shape without trying or risking overdoing it but for the rest of us there is no easy answer.
