As Men Going Their Own Way, I suspect a number of you grow your own food. I’d like to see your stories and see some pics. Share your stories, advice on weed prevention, fertilizer..whatever you feel like contributing!

I currently have Kennebec potatoes coming up nicely. 200 Georgia Sweet onions. Turnips, lettuce, brussels sprouts and a couple tomatoes all starting to take off. Planning on another half dozen tomato plants at least. Put in 100 Hale’s Best cantaloupe seeds in the ground today along with 40 Big Max pumpkin seeds. Should have some carrot seed in the ground before the day is over along with some zucchini.

For fertilizer, I simply plant everything in mellowed cow manure. I don’t use chemical weed killers at all and do it the old fashioned way, elbow grease 🙂

Wow, just thinking about a plant thread!

I was a master arborist for 10 years before going to school for psychology. I love everything botanical.

I live in a high rise that has garden plots, but I didn’t buy one this year. However, I have sick houseplants: a pineapple tree, a nice dwarf Lilly, and braided Devil’s Ivy. Yes, braided. I will learn how to post pics and then, well, post them.

I fertilize them with compost tea that I make from a stream that flows over a horse pasture. The water is loaded with beneficial bacteria. I ‘feed’ it with organic fertilizer and aerate it with an aquarium pump. Stuff is like steroids for plants.

A hobby of mine I enjoy a lot. I have snap peas and cabbage in now.

A little more warming needed for the tomatoes and pole beans, but in a couple of weeks those will go in.

I’m organic, and I use a variety of natural pest controls. Also, I use raised beds. Easier on my back!

Doubling the vegetable & fruit gardens from 560 sqft to 1120 sqft.
Putting in a lot more okra this year.

Establishing a yellow flower garden around the forsythia.

I’ll also be weeding the orchard/NE gardens (about 4-5,000 sqFt). I have a few herb gardens too I need to weed.

All my life I've had doubts about who I am, where I belonged. Now I'm like the arrow that springs from the bow. No hesitation, no doubts. The path is clear. And what are you? Alive. My garden is in. I have tons of stuff this year except the spinach is having some issues.
Also, I have lots of yellow finger egg plant and I don’t care for them so I need to pawn them off on some vegans at work.

A few years ago I started planting raspberry bushes around the perimeter of my house. They are really starting to catch and last year I grew over $200 worth of raspberries. They keep expanding and this year I’ll have even more.

I’m also growing beets – a healthy vegetable and you can eat every part of it.

And probably green or yellow beans.

I’m 100% organic too. I put all of my organic waste into the compost heap along with grass clippings, leaves, kitchen waste, etc. And it all goes right into my garden.

I collect water from rain barrels so I don’t spend any money on water.

Growing some of your own food is very primal, liberating and satisfying experience.

It’s a wonderful hobby to take up at any age and I highly recommend it to any man on the MGTOW path.

    Man, I miss gardening cannabis
It’s truly serene and out of this world experience.
You walk inside a really bright tent with fans whirring and leaves flapping.
And then the spraying kicks in and mists the suspended roots with water and nutrients.
And you can literally see plants grow taller and bigger every day.
It’s like a portal to a different world where no worry exists

So far, I’ve got Lettuce, Cabbages, Tomatoes, Peppers, started.

I’m thinking of doing some Melons, Cucumbers, Squash next week. Gives me relief having so much food growing in the back yard.

My new place does not have room for a garden, unfortunately.

I used to grow cue ball squash, cherry tomatoes pickling cucumbers, various peppers, basil, cilantro, and others.

I had a mulch pile, put coffee grounds, egg shells, veggie scraps, etc in there. I did use a little miracle gro in spring.

My garlic dill habaneros were insane!

I graft tomatoes and grow them in hugel bed which are in my front yard as that is the only area with direct sun. My neighbors are baffled by the beds and the giant bamboo clumps which are now more than 50′ tall.

I designed my own aeroponics rig from scratch, Menards and Internet. When s~~~ hit the fan I grew tomatoes, peppers and lettuce in the same rig. It was completely automated and amazingly quick in growing produce and smokeables alike
It was my best hobby and I had to stop doing it due to life circumstances. I miss it so much, but can’t do it right now. It’s still stored in my garage in the rafters

Just bought a new home last fall. I have to get the under ground utilities located and dig a new garden in the back yard. I have a lot of work to do but I do enjoy it.

In previous years my favorites have been spinach, beets, radishes, and peas.

My favorite herbs are dill, sage, and thyme. I always make time for thyme haha.

I have to get a rhubarb patch going as I’ve made homemade rhubarb wine for many years now. It’s the bomb, I highly recommend it.

Oh and I can’t forget the asparagus patch, and raspberries. Damn I hope I have enough room. One of these years I’m going to try some horse radish.

I’m not sure I can get it all done in one spring. Well I guess Rome wasn’t built in a day.

I have been wasting untold amounts of time trying to get my tiller running. In the morning going to go use my shovel and just turn over hills and run squash, cantaloupe and watermelon. Hoping all the vines and leaves will cover most of the area and keep the other grasses and weeds in check.

Tea is good stuff. Sometimes I’ll fill up a 5 gallon bucket that has holes drilled in the bottom with manure. Just add water and the fun begins!

Could a few 30 gallon tubs placed in a convenient spot be possible for your home Buck? They are fairly easy to relocate as well.

I’m planning on an aquaponics setup inside a greenhouse. I’ll most likely use 2 350-gal IBC containers as tanks, and use a gravel-sand mix in trays as the medium for crops, and raise tilapia in the tanks.

The idea is the fish poop, the fish waste goes through the water pump, into the trays with the plants and fertilizes them, the plants filter the water which then falls down into the fish tanks.

For food for the fish, I’m planning on using duckweed (which will grow on the surface of water) and black soldier fly larvae. (they accelerate turning organic waste into compost and can be used as food for stuff like chickens or fish).

I will also get chickens again in the future. (Buff Orpingtons and Araucanas. That mix makes for Easter eggs you don’t have to dye) An additional bonus to having chickens is that they mow the grass and eat ticks.

For the greenhouse, I already have a metal frame… I’m considering using a few thousand 2-liter bottles with the bottoms cut out as the walls and roof of the greenhouse (you thread them together with cable).

All my life I've had doubts about who I am, where I belonged. Now I'm like the arrow that springs from the bow. No hesitation, no doubts. The path is clear. And what are you? Alive. My new place is run by an association, can’t even plant flowers!

There is a spot I can hide a few plants, no one would see the basil or squash growing. I am going to plant seeds after mothers day, hopefully the snow season is over.
