Anonymous0Inspired (least, but not last) by topic of It’sallbs:
UK police can download your phone data without a warrant
Guys, after reading above-mentioned article I’ll be looking for cheap, reliable gadget without functions of telecommunication at all (2/3/4 or whatever G, wi-fi, GSM, and other crap like that) to replace my telephone and I would be glad, if some of you consider changing your smartphones onto something more secure and safe too.
Before picking up one particular model I would be glad to acknowledge some advices on what device should be chosen as viable alternative to smartphones / notebooks / etc.?
Thank you very much It’sallbs for that valuable information, it definitely has its last drop effect!
A non-cell enabled Tablet will meet your requirements if the law specifically states that it’s a cellphone they can rob the data off of and not any type of electronic device.
Keep in mind though that traveling via airplane especially to/from the USA all yoru electronic devices are subject to data search. In which case I would recommend you keep your data ‘in the cloud’ But not a PUBLIC cloud which is also subject to data searches without notifying the subscriber. I recommend you setup your own personal in-house cloud and deliver typical data cloud services to yourself that way nothing is on your portable devices . If you want a recommendation for a personal clodu solution, look at synology NAS devices they have tons of features available on them. I used to run my own windows server for years doing file and email services but i recently consolidated everything onto a Synology DS1817. Also don’t use ‘sync’ from your own cloud stuff to mobile devices, cloud syncing makes a copy of everything on your devices and syncs it back to your ‘cloud’ whether it’s dropbox or your own cloud. Always access your cloud directly.

Anonymous0Thank you, KevinStyles for your awesome advice! Your info realy brought up whole cluster of thoughts, plans, routes of achieving aims and fullfilling requirements of informational hygene. I didn’t even expected such a promt reply, so much accurate and keen advices. Where it’s possible? Here on MGTOW.COM it’s possible!

So far I understood that thing is some kind of in-home cloud server machine, where I can store data, accessing it from any point at globe. But what is about traffic security? This thing will require from me additional studying and research to use it properly, but I definitely will do that in foreseeable future.
What would you say about ProtonMail? Could it be viewed as a temorary remedy? I would like to know, is it more secure in comparison with other public e-mail services? For now I forced to use the most basic and low-tech principles of informational hygene, mostly not to record or distribute valubale info when possible.
Thank you once again for your advice, KevinStyles!
gadget without functions of telecommunication
Been thinking about exactly the same thing .. exactly .. I want as much tech as I can reasonably discover .. without any hook-up to outside world. As I begin the year(s) long process of shutting down the outside .. and concentrate inward. I want computers .. but self contained. I’ve already posted how I’ve been collecting DVD’s for about ten years so I have my own library of media favorites .. videos, concerts and my fav sci-fi programs without any input from the typical feeds. Just me, my disc players connected to flat screen with no commercial cable or satellite tv .. everything “in-house” & some decent popcorn. new life, seclusion, xlnt!

Anonymous0That’s a good, vivid image! = ) Your message brought me to think that this desire to get such high tech devices, gadgets and tools for comfortable life is huge amongst us. And apparently I get myself to conclusion that this desire is unsatisfied. You’re looking for your own media set for MGHOW home for years (!), I’m looking for reliable, cheap, safe and secure gadget, while being forced to use unsecured low-tech for most of my life. There are little to no offerings to us to get what we want.
Imagine that in future there would be whole industry markets dedicated to men, specifically to meet our demands…
I think it’s possible, and it will be done, even in our lifespan.
At the same time I would add, that such development of brand new industry markets most likely would be provided by ourselves for ourselves.
That tech would be very good, useful anyway, least to say.
Anonymous0Synology DS1817
Finally, I got picture about this device features and this technology in general. I’m surprised that it’s so affordable. High quality encryption standards, good hardware, 3 year warranty, high storage capacity. Awesome machine!
BTW almost none of tablets I looked up so far are without wi-fi… That is telling something already.
Your advices got me thinking about information hygiene, how to meet its high standards in today’s environment. Now I think that I’m capable of using this tech properly. I’ll definitely study more about it, plan and get one of those (or maybe similar) in foreseeable future.
Once again, thank you very much KevinStyles!
Ya on tablets wifi is typically what they require to get online. But you can turn the wifi radio off. If you have no data service though wifi or cellular, honestly they can’t do much. Maybe play music or videos that you have copied into it locally.
If you want wifi but also want to remain secure, get a program like Private Internet Access on your tablet, laptop, PC and it’ll encrypted all your internet traffic through a 3rd party VPN server. So your network address can’t be tracked back to you, nor can your ISP analyse your traffic and see what you’re doing because it’s all encrypted. All your ISP can see is that you’re running an encrypted connection to some other server. So then the key is using a VPN server that doesn’t do any logging or keep any records that can be subpoenas, which PIA (private internet access) doesn’t keep any logs. I’ve been using them for over 5 years now and do all my web browsing through their VPN services.
If you REALLY want to get fancy, you can get yourself a wifi router which supports OpenVPN and once thats all setup , everything that connects to your wifi router is encrypted and goes out your VPN tunnel. You can get a Netgear R7000 and load DDWRT software onto it and make it work with PIA. Or the new Netgear XR500 i THINK has IPVanish built in and hidemyass but hidemyass keeps logs, IPVanish says they don’t. Personally i have an R7000 with DDWRT loaded and PIA VPN services andi connect my laptop and tablets to that basically things I use for my general internet activities so they’re always encrypted. And I have another R7000 that is standard Netgear router OS and not encrypted for like my Roku TV and Xbox because streaming services like netflix and hulu sometimes block things coming in over VPN and honestly i don’t really care of the ISP knows i’m watching netflix or not. So i keep that traffic unencrypted.
So… more things to read up on huh:)
As for accessing your NAS you just use HTTPS. If you want to really be secure you can buy an SSL certificate from like godaddy.com. Or you can just do your own self signed one, both work the same just the self signed one won’t give you the green lock icon in the address bar because it can’t be verified. WHich doesn’t matter if its you just accessing your own stuff. Also look into Dynamic DNS like noip.com if your ISP randomly changes your TCP/IP address. WIth NOIP running on at least one thing on your network, it’ll always update what your IP address is so you can get to it. Unless you havea business class internet service, you probably have dynamic IP assignment so your address will change over time making noip.com or dyndns.com dynamic ip services necessary.
After the whole Snowden bombsells back in what, 2013…. i abandoned all hosted type services and looked at ways to provide those services to myself privately. IT’s been a work in progress, still more to do but i’m pretty solid right now I think.
That’s all about convenience…
The communication from various devices can be really a problem.
And accounting them all may be a headache, and even turning off is not a warranty.Best solution IMO is like this:

The encryption & steganography combo is all you need. They won’t ever know where to look.
Know when it is your duty to give them zero explanations for your actions.

Aphabets which can be camouflaged for ornaments also help:

Depends on what you use your gadgets for, you can always find the “classic” substitute for them.
You can buy an mp3 player, if you want to listen to music.
If you want to know what time it is, buy a watch.
If you want to take notes, pen & paper.
If you want to read a book, buy a physical version of the book and read it.
And so on…Simplify how you do your things, and you will have less to worry about.
What would you say about ProtonMail?
Email providers are like women, they will promise one thing, but as soon their motives changes, you are screwed. Your messages will be there, and they can be forced to spy on you by the government, don’t trust them, because when they get a court order, they will have to be hypocrites and spy on their users as requested, or their business will be shutdown by the feds. If you want to use email, use it with end to end cryptography (search for using GPG with your email), so even if they have your messages, they won’t be able to read it, BUT, they will know that you are communicating with someone, and will be able to identify that person’s email address (this kind of indirect information is called metadata).
And consider another factor, the person that you are communicating with, doesn’t matter much if you have a extremely secure network, if you send confidential information to someone that doesn’t give a s~~~ about security, the data can be easily leaked. So, choose well who you trust.
If you need to communicate with other people, consider using keybase.io, it uses end to end cryptography, has file sharing, and a lot of other stuff.

Anonymous0So… more things to read up on huh:)
That is for sure = )
This thread had become an interesting discussion with a lot of information from personal experience and wisdom. Many valuable advices had been given, I need some time to acknowledge them all.
