    Could be same reason as somatic vegetative dysfunction (SVD) – Stress/psyche related.

    Unless there are physiological reasons, like nerve damage or heightened pain sensitivity/neurotransmitter activity?

    Local analgesia could be used, physiotherapy/massage could be used, anything that relaxes the body and calms down the pain (cold etc). Requires more research for sure first.
