My step mother claims to have FM. It seems to only pop up when she wants something, or doesn’t want to do something. It has turned my dad into a complete servant to her. I’m still in the anger phase, and can’t help but think it’s a complete load of s~~~.
    .
Anyone know any more about this? Anyone see similar behavior in the worst of people who claim to have it?

Tell her you have nof~~~myalgia and don’t give a f~~~ what she wants and now she is empowered to do it herself. It’s a real condition but does she have it is the question. If you think she is taking advantage, then she is.

If you rescue a damsel in distress, all you will get is a distressed damsel.

I know all about it, in fact I was speaking to the specialist who is researching the condition in England. I’ve had first hand experience with many patients with this condition. The majority of cases are women with severe symptoms. However there are men too that have the condition.

I can’t say that all of them are genuine. But from the cases I have seen the pain and limited mobility are very much real. I have seen someone who led a very active and normal life style reduced to a shell of their former self. I attended a support group last week and saw former gym teachers, fitness fanatics of both sexes whose life was a fraction of what it once was. Suicide and depression were key issues for the patients.

There’s a form of treatment that I have seen that’s very effective. It’s called a Lidocaine Infusion. It’s had a success rate of about 60% but in the patients I have seen it’s much higher. Average period of about two months plus. However this treatment can only be performed safely three times a year.

Yes, I do know all about this condition. It’s horrific.

Of course it’s a load of s~~~. Like “I have a headache”… except it sounds fancier.

I once called someone out for not showing up to pre-arranged meeting.
The response was “oh yeah,. sorry. I totally have A.D.D (attention deficit disorder).”

When I was a kid in school, NONE of us had “A.D.D”. There was no such thing.
It was called –>> PAY F~~~ING ATTENTION.

I won’t pretend to know anything about FM, but I sure know a lot about women making excuses.

If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.

    We discussed this last week.

I said that a lot of the symptoms overlap with major depression.

I would think that a serious medical condition would have some kind of blood test, etc. To show something is off.

Your treatment, a treatment or placebo?

Why can you only get a lidocaine shot 3 times a year?

In this case, she doesn’t work. She is however, able enough to travel the country by herself (carries her own bags) on vacation after vacation while my dad is home slaving over two businesses and a part time job. The FM has never “flared up” while she’s been having fun in the sun.
    .
I’ve also never seen her have a bad day.

Fibromyalgia is a “catch all” for diseases when doctors are to lazy to do a workup and tests on their patients, because doing so takes time and may not pay off for the doctors.

“Fibromyaligia” is the “consumption” of the modern medical diagnosis.

I have had pain in my body my entire life. All of the doctors I saw refused to actually do any real tests on me. I suspected decades ago that I had arthritis, but all the doctors ignored my comments, they claimed I could not have arthritis because I was “too young”, they did not do any tests, but blood tests, and they listed me as having “fibromyaligia”.

I even went to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville and the doctors they brushed me away, they did not do any tests, and they listed me as having “fibromyaligia”.

Last year, I finally found a doctor whom would actually run some real tests on me and she found that I had arthritis. Which I knew I had decades ago. Unfortunately, due to the arrogance of the doctors before her, my arthritis has reached a point where there I can do nothing about it but suffer. The pain is so deep that even pain killers cannot help.

I have no sympathy for the medical association. When the economy crashes, may all the doctors financially drown in their college loan debts.

Totally made up and allowed to justify lazy people (most of whom are women BTW) to parasite off various support systems.
I have met several women who claim to have it, never a man. For the most part the common symptom are fat and lazy, with a healthy dose of bitchy victim status syndrome compounded with a supreme sense of entitlement.

I dated 2 women that claimed they had it, neither could get a job due to “constant pain due to excessive movement” however they could f~~~ like million dollar hookers and they had no problems when they went out partying either. Apparently they only “suffered in constant pain” when it came to working to support themselves.

I had broken, fractured, cracked, damaged, and compressed every bone and joint in my body by the time I was 35 yrs old. I also have osteoarthritis, non repairable muscle damage, hyper alertness, a few other things, and I have chronic pain that I am so used to all I feel is a rise in my skin/muscle temperature until it gets so bad I HAVE to take pain killers/anti-inflammatory/muscle relaxants. I also have the X-Rays and MRI’s on file to prove it, yet I still have to fight tooth and nail for s~~~ like massage or chiropractic therapy because I am still more physically flexible than most people half my age.

What I do NOT have is that pansy assed imaginary s~~~ called Fibromyalgia.

That about sums it up Faust.

Yep, I’ve heard about that scam.

Coming back from a project from India I suspect I had dengue. The doctor say no it is just a common fever and blood test is not needed.

I stubbornly insist on it and he even had the gall to say the blood test cost this extra, do you want to pay for it?

Blood test turn positive for dengue.

Without medical equipment and chemical test, the doctor cannot know the patient body better the the patient.

I know you are making a general statement. And this is not an accusation. But, for those others wondering about myself. I have never been on welfare, nor government disability. I still pull my weight in this life. Actually, I help others in my family whom are worse off than myself.

That about sums it up Faust.

    @faust
    I get you there.

By quoting you, I meant to highlight the point that you went in with the complaint of possible arthritis, and were sluffed off with a diagnosis of an imagined “disease” because the medical practitioners didn’t want to run the appropriate tests and it was easier for them.
You didn’t go in looking for that misdiagnosis.

There was a time in my life when I gave a fuck. Now you have to pay ME for it

One of the things that keeps me going is the real possibility of living to see it all fall apart. I want to see these doctors fall from their ivory towers and lose everything.

And yes. Stubbornly living to see others experience misery is the definition of hatred. But, when you have nothing else to use to drive you forward, hatred will do.

Im a doctor and I’m ashamed.

Fibromyalgia is not real, a lot of immunological diseases are ignored by lazy as doctors, and doctors feed up with crazy patients who want attention.

    😫

I really should have done something different.

To those following me, be careful, I just farted. Men those beans are killers.

“Fibromyaligia” is the “consumption” of the modern medical diagnosis.

I would suggest it’s a replacement for the “Hysteria” diagnosis.

No. Because people who are confined to wheelchairs and dying are diagnosed with “fibromyalgia” because the doctors are to lazy to do tests.

I know people who actually had mystery diseases that are only alive today because their doctors did tests and found they had illnesses that only twenty on record have had.

There is no objective test for fibromyalgia. (No blood test, no imaging modality etc). The diagnosis is given based on a set of criteria:

    1. Generalized pain 4 or more of 5 regions.
    2. No change in the level symptoms over a 3 months period.
    3. WPI (Widespread pain index) 7 or above AND SSS (symptom severity
scale) 5 or above. OR WPI 4-6 and SSS 9 or above
4.Tender points are no longer required, only generalized pain

The diagnosis basically means nothing, as there is no proven treatment for the condition.

If your doctor won’t order the tests you would like to have done, doesn’t mean he is lazy. If there is no indication to do the tests, we don’t order them, simply because there is no reason to do so. If my patients insist, I can order the tests: but they have to pay out-of-pocket to have them done.

I realize some doctors are lazy. Most doctors I know are not.
