The issue of ‘nature giving you knowledge’ looks like just semantics to me. It’s commonly accepted that the phrase means knowledge was derived from observation of nature.

Regarding ignorance of the bible, I don’t see why anyone needs to fully understand it in order to reject it. I don’t need to fully understand how a world without God fully operates in order to reject it as well. That said though, if you’re going to make a point using the bible as a reference, it’s wise to be familiar with the common interpretations. As well, claiming someone is ignorant without backing it up is rather weak as well.

I used to have a better understanding of some of the reference IRuleMe brought up, but couldn’t really explain it very well at this time. I would say though that it is entirely possible that God has a much different understanding of the value of life then we do, which makes sense considering the different perspective of knowledge God would have. Along with it, it also seems entirely possible that what seems contradictory and such from our perspective would be entirely different from the perspective of an all knowing and all seeing God.

    Ok. Then do it.

This is part of the reason why these types of discussions are really pointless other than for perhaps any entertainment value. Theists try to explain to us a God that they tell us is supposedly beyond human understanding or comprehension and they try to tell us that “we aren’t interpreting properly” a book that has been subject to a myriad of various interpretations.

I kinda find it a little unsettling that Theists cannot even see the profound absurdity in their own arguments…

My morals come from not telling my son to make my grandson a sacrifice to me as a show of loyalty. I’m kinda big on that. That type of conversation would never come up. Seems odd to take the moral high ground for a God that made a bet with Satan over whether or not one of his followers would turn away from him. “Go ahead.. I’ll let you do whatever you want. Let you take his sight, murder his family, whatever you like bro. See if you can turn him away from me.” Like some pawn piece for a little amusement. Like it’s some game for his personal entertainment.

God has some serious character defects for an all knowing, omnipotent being. He “loves his children” but is responsible for every plague and pestilence that has killed humankind since man’s inception. Hell, he unleashed all kinds of different ones on the people of Egypt. Killing first borns.. Who had nothing to do with the Jews being slaves. If I’ve gotten my morals from anything, it’s from seeing that God has none.

Dude you are completely ignorant of what the Bible teaches and you obviously don’t care so move on. Revel in your ignorance.

I was raised around the bible for 13 years. The bible is full of contradictions. Contradictions from Christ, contradictions from God, contradictions between the old testament and the new, contradictions between apostles (including contradictions over whether certain apostles were actually apostles), contradictions of events (there’s at least 3 different accounts of Christ dying on the cross). But it’s easy to talk about “interpretations” when everyone interprets it themselves for their own person gain, and given the amount of times the stories have been translated over the centuries. It’s a myth book. Fiction. No different than Mother Goose. The bible has some stories that are relevant, but so does Mother Goose.

Reading the Bible is actually how many Atheists became Atheists. Go figure…

To me, there are two different gods.
The one of the Old Testament which is somehow evil when you read all the slaughter campaigns… killing babies, women, old men… often by ruse.
I can’t imagine the real God being like that.
Shall you also know about some old Mesopotamian tablets being almost copied into the Bible… far older than the Hebrew scriptures…

While the God of the New Testament is quite different…
Being a practitioner of spiritual practices (meditation, Qi Qong, etc.), you have a very different lecture of the Bible once you discover prana/chi and had some weird “experiences”…

You then understand most of the miracles of Jesus.
By the way, he disappeared for 17 years (in India ?) before coming back “home” at 30.

By the way, John Norman made good critics of Earth religions when he described the Initiates.
Quite funny to read and a lot of logic in it.

You should also read Julian the Apostate, Roman Emperor : his “Against the Galileans” book is excellent.

    Finally, I have 2 daughters.
I try my best that they be not too s~~~ty but I doubt I will success that much.
I often explain what a man really is and where the woman usually f~~~s up.

To the point: I will have a MGTOW discussion with their future husbands to explain them “how women are” and what needs to be done to prevent s~~~ to happen the best you can.

I stopped reading when I got to the part where that guy burns his daughter alive as a promise to appease God. It was just a little too “Quentin Tarantino” for my tastes. I’m more into non-fiction books anyway…

Didn’t she go into the mountains first with her friends to bewail her virginity? What were they doing in the mountains? She was no virgin, for sure.

You have proved your ignorance and I am done.

Onetruemisfit, you are engaging in ad hominim attacks against your brothers.

Which is why the church has sought to keep the bible in Latin for so long (no one could read it). Then the church tried (and succeeded) in KILLING those who translated the bible.

When I first listened to the Word of Promise, I was naive and I thought, WOW – the churches will really be pushing this so people can READ the bible so easily.

Didn’t happen. Never heard about it in church. Hmmm… that’s weird. Didn’t even see any BIBLES in church – just a library of books of people’s “interpretations” of the bible – much heavier books than the actual bible.

Much of the Bible (Noah’s Ark is an example) are just stories and texts from older beliefs and myths that predate Christianity. Richard Carrier does a good job of pointing this out.

You don’t have to dig very deep to realize that the Christian religion, as well as the Christian God, are just complete man-made fabrications compiled from older non-Christian beliefs and Gods.

In order for Christianity to work, people must be convinced to ignore the obvious. A true Atheist just cannot do this…
