I believe that any form of free money payout undermines the recipient’s will to produce and contribute to society while simultaneously making them resent their dependence on said free money.

Look at any housewife and/or empoverished community. They get free s~~~, they let themselves go, they hate their husbands, men in general and, eventually the government too.

I believe in the free market and the notion that you eat what you kill or what you can trade for. If someone can’t carry their own weight or convince someone to do it for them through the fair exchange of values, we don’t need them.

Stealing money from Peter so that Paul doesn’t have to earn his own is a crime against nature and it will not go well for the people who do it for very long.

If we ever get a UBI in this country, I’m retiring as soon as the first one hits my savings account, and living on a beach in a foreign country with a lower cost of living…which is exactly why its a retarded idea…it simply encourages people to do nothing productive with their lives. Most importantly…retiring and not contributing to the system would also give me the satisfaction of knowing I am no longer supporting such a f~~~ed up society.

Someone on another forum crunched the numbers.

This equals out to about $50,832,000,000 per year in welfare/BI, their GDP is $216,000,000,000. That leaves over $150,000,000,000 to work with. It might actually work because all that money will be put back into the economy anyways.

So in other words tax rates would have to go up high enough to equal 25% of the GDP? Let’s just say we had a balanced budget and that equated to a 25% increase in tax rates across the board, I don’t know what you do for a living, but I think for most of the guys on here we can look at what we are grossing this year and easily figure out 25% of it is a hell of a lot more than a few hundred bucks a month. 150 x 52 = 7800 a year…so if you make more than 31,200 you would lose out in taxes. That income would put you roughly in the 70th percentile…so 70% of the country would lose money with a program like this here in the states.
