Info for members who are thinking to relocate to Ireland.
Scotland does not sound bad and is the country of William Wallace.

Scotland may adopt a universal basic income scheme that would guarantee a cash payment of up to £150 a week to its citizens for the rest of their lives, Nicola Sturgeon has said.

The First Minister said she would fund research into the proposal that would “inform parliament’s thinking for the future”.

Wonderful, the perfect reason NOT to work for Many.

Just how long does one think this will last before they run out of OTHER people’s Money to pay for this recent dole ?

I can get 150 from the gov., do a lil tax free side work, get gov. paid housing and free food benefits while having Most the week off, and NO concerns about Food, Shelter, Clothing etc.

The trouble with free stuff is it actually costs money and the people getting it for free have to pay for it in one way or another.

    Just ask Greece.

Who’s gonna pay for it? Fiat market? Fiat mfg? Fiat money? Fiat citizen?

Perhaps the rolling green fields and forests will pay for it? Just another poncy scheme to tie all personal to a sinking ship, an irresponsible society.

    BLUB BLUB BLUB

Bye bye Scotland! Great whisky, but sure not to afford it with the hidden and prevalent cost of Fiat Government!

I can’t afford the hidden costs of laziness built into the free market system!

I’ll just have to brew my own so I can afford it being one that’s expected to pay for it.

Everything is becoming too damn expensive with the added costs of western bloated governments p~~~ing away money on those that DON’T EARN IT!

I think I’ll invest in copper and silver solder before I invest in anything Scotland.

I’m the new Scotch! I don’t share my labor with those that don’t earn their way!

Maybe Scotland can use their whisky as fuel to cover the high cost of gasoline from the added tax on that and other commodities to pay people that aren’t working!

You get what you pay for no matter who’s money you’re using!

I’ll invest in back braces for the Scottish that believe pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps is the way to go!

Socialism works until you run out of other people’s money.

All my life I've had doubts about who I am, where I belonged. Now I'm like the arrow that springs from the bow. No hesitation, no doubts. The path is clear. And what are you? Alive. Someone on another forum crunched the numbers.

This equals out to about $50,832,000,000 per year in welfare/BI, their GDP is $216,000,000,000. That leaves over $150,000,000,000 to work with. It might actually work because all that money will be put back into the economy anyways.

Fun fact you may not know- President Nixon floated a basic income bill in 1969-70. He quickly decided to abandon the plan. I personally don’t see how it could work anywhere.

To that individual I will say:

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
When half of the people get the idea that they no longer have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and the other half get the idea that there is no point to working because somebody else is going to reap the fruits of their labour, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

I am no expert on the UBI subject, just interested in it and follow it here and there.

Studies have been made on how it effects population but are so far inconclusive.
Some thrive on UBI, some are lost.

There is big ongoing project that should give finite results Y Combinator Wants to Study Universal Income

Keep in mind that as AI and robotics change the workforce some kind of UBI will be put in place (GOV could add additional tax to companies that replace us with robots or AI and transfer it to UBI).

I don’t expect this to go anywhere as the Scottish Parliament doesn’t even have the authority to implement it. However, it’s misleading to claim all adults would get £150 per week.

Pensioners would get £150 a week under their plan for the scheme, while working adults would get £100. Everyone under 16 would get £50.

Pensioners already get £150 a week as the state pension. The basic income would replace existing benefits rather than supplement them.

Many working adults are already in receipt of various benefits; including help with their rent and a basic income would replace those benefits.

I doubt £100 per week would remove anyone’s incentive to work. They may be more selective about the work they do; favoring less well-paid work that they don’t despise. This would force up wages for those willing to do less fulfilling jobs.

Scotland is already dependent on subsidies from south of the border, so it can’t pay for it.

England will not pay for it and the EU can’t pay for it either.

If it is passed into law, then I predict that London will devolve more tax gathering powers to Scotland.

Scotland will then be saddled with the bill, and its leaders with the opprobrium that will follow the ensuing economic collapse.

And of course, regardless of the outcome, the break up of Britain will advance another notch.

This, with that amount of “free money” makes work optional, and the GDP will fall down in a few months and then the country budget falls down. Then hell and black market economy breaks loose. This is not a way how poor people can be handled. Some limited support to them maybe okay, and education and whatever needed for them to find a new job and become productive again. And fuk all of those who still don’t want to work despite being able to work.

I can see it now… In some smoke filled backroom Nixon, having just removed gold from backing the dollar completely to fund the Vietnam war was saying “Hey, now we can take care of people too”. “No you fool” replied the Puppet Master. “They have to work to PAY for all the wars”…
