I still have two connections to the outside world .. this fiber optic cable and the power line that feeds electricity to my house and my Amateur Radio i still use for code.
Other than that, I have no smartphone, no television reception hook-up, no landline .. I don’t Tweet, no SocMedia, Texting, e-mail or Tinder .. and I haven’t sent a snail mail for as long as I can remember .. all my bills are auto-pay other than groceries and items from hardware store.
I live alone, dine alone, collect coins & bb cards alone, shoot fireworks in my backyard alone .. watch DVD and Blu-ray alone and make most of my living working alone. I do have several regular contacts that I keep online for my business .. but as I eventually retire .. I plan to cut the cord, nearly all of them.
If I do go off grid using a combination of wind and solar and cut the last line .. I will have no more contact with the outside world other than occasionally sending morse code to a few friends .. now and then. I keep in touch with a few friends sailing around world. Last contact was south of France.
I don;t see how I can cut more .. other than climbing into a cave or going permanently Hammock Camping. Could happen .. eventually.
I really am thinking of eventually selling all i can except what I can carry in a few cases and getting a little used 39.9 foot sailboat with my own water-maker system along with wind, hydro and solar w inverter set-up and sailing away south, then northeast and then east and then slowly further east .. basically forever. I’ll call it a “seven year plan” because five year plans never seem to work out.
