Ford Trivia: The very first cars sold by Henry Ford weren’t actually Fords but were in fact assembled and built with Dodge parts. Look it up!
I’ve driven Fords all my life and I’ve found that the vehicle quality and engineering was widely inconsistent. Engines like the 390 V8, 302 V8, 351 Windsor, and the 200 in-line 6 cylinder where far from being power houses but they were bullet proof. You just couldn’t kill them.
However engines like the 3.8 V6, the 400 V8 and the 351M V8 were absolute f~~~ing boat anchors. It’s like when they have a really good, reliable design, future engineers come along and see badly they can f~~~ it all up. It was the same story with the old Ford C4 and C5 automatic transmissions. Around 1903 at the Mack Avenue plant? What I found states Ford did not move toward his own production until around 1905. I guess that’s where that acronym for Ford comes from. I didn’t know that. Neat history.
I think the engineers that re engineer things into POS never drove or owned what they re engineered before and after they got a hold of it. Of curse something can look great on paper but turn out to be a box of rocks. Until now all the Fords I have had had International diesels in them, and standard transmissions. They were not that bad. Oh I forgot the 89 Festiva. That thing was actually a trooper. Sewing machine hooked to a 4 speed, cheap parts insane MGP and actually with almost 250K miles mostly reliable. I only set it on fire twice while working on it.
I have a Mazda w/ a Ford 2.3 in it and probably a load of other Ford parts(not sure where Ford ends and Mazda begins on it), its ok on actual driving, storage, MPG, power ect, but has been a nightmare for things going wrong. The biggest issue was a bad design that caused it to eat an engine. I attribute the rest of its problems to though of they just don’t make them like they used to. They are not made to last or have any longevity in comparison. Parts to the whole thing continue to become ever more expensive while the quality drops sharply scalping all those who buy a car or parts for it on an ever more often rotation due to crappy manufacture.
Think cell phones. They have a shelf life of around 2 years. Then they break and need to be replaced.
I’ve managed to keep my current phone running for seven years, but even with perfectly functioning hardware the OS is now so obsolete that it’s becoming unusable. Even cyanogenmod has stopped supporting it. So there’s planned obsolescence built in no matter what you do.
And every new car today has a f~~~ing cell phone built right into the dash that controls as much of the interior as possible. And there’s no support plan whatsoever for keeping their software updated or for repairing them if damaged. And car companies are doing everything they can to move to subscription based apps on those devices. Imagine having to pay a monthly subscription fee to be able to control the air conditioning in your own car. F~~~ that.

Anonymous14I haven’t owned an American car my entire life. Japanese and German only, oh, and one Italian car. I also have owned nothing newer than early to mid 90’s as around this time they started to intentionally make cars harder and harder to work on. They want you go to the dealership big time. I refuse to buy a new car, it will never happen.

Indeed, I’ve rooted devices previously and cynaogenmod was one of the best custom firmware’s for it. I recall using the clockworkmod with a Pandora Battery on my PSP back in the day too haha.
I think personally the ‘obsolescence’ is a killswitch approach – the manufacturer can push “updates” to your phone automatically – it would be easy enough to implement buggy code that will ultimately crash your device outside of warranty.
Think what Nintendo did to combat pirated ISO/CSO on the R4 cards – they released their own ISO/CSO files with bugged code which bricked the device if ran making it a risky endeavour to play pirated games.

I would circumvent it and run a hotwire to the AC compressor! I’d have my own bundle of wires along side their bundle of wires!

Fill it to the brim with forged stuff and shove in aftermarket fuel injection and cats on it. Then you have a modern car with none of the complexity and far more flexibility in regards to repairs and upgrades.
Or just buy an LT4 since it is better, or wait until the lithium sulfur and go electric which is easy. Cars are s~~~A MGTOW is a man who is not a woman's bitch!
One of my most frustrating times was with an 08 Ford F-150. The taillight went out at a car wash when my daughter was 4yrs old. We were inside the wash and the trutk wouldn’t go into reverse. Finally I had to call a tow truck and he said it happens all the time. If a taillight goes out its a safety feature and the truck shouldnt be driven. Real safe that I’m stuck in town with my kid. Screw you ford.
I looked into this out of my own curiosity and it seems to be EXTREMELY unlikely that this would be a design feature of this truck. I’d bet that the tow truck driver who told you this was just talking about the issue described in the link.

Well the front tag and the badge on the grill says “Nissan” and the badge on the bottom of the driver’s door says “Titan XD”. I’m thinking that it looks like the model year of about 2016.
